Putting a poster's posting history on their profile encourages trolls to stalk others

I think the feature should be removed.

reply

NO.

If you have a problem with stalkers, report them instead.

reply

Reporting is the slow method and clogs up the report logs.
The quick method is to remove the tool they use. You don't need to be following anybody's posting history anyway unless you are stalking them. Stalker supporter.

reply

With so many trolls around, being able to see posting history is essential. But you know that already and are playing naive.

reply

^ Completely agree.

reply

Thank you 🙂

reply

You're welcome. I only see a square instead of an emoji, but in my imagination it's something clever, nice, and funny :D

reply

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

reply

Yeah, he's baiting once again.

reply

Good call.

reply

But you know that already and are playing naive

So like what was the point of you saying that? What does it have to do with what I said?
It amazes me how people add comments that come from absolute thin air all because they want to support stalking.

You don't need to be on message board if you can't post without following someone.

The movie database doesn't give users access to following other user's posting history and the posters there are the most educated and polite. It's like the best of IMDb went to the movie database while the mean argumentative stalky trolls came to movie chat and imdb2

reply

I don't know. Maybe it has something to do with you invoking Ben in Soapbox out of thin air, and him conveniently replying after 2 months of silence. Call me suspicious. You came on this site much later than he went away, and yet you not only know about him but are starting threads about him. I hope that answers your question. If all this was a coincidence, just put me on ignore and get it over with.

reply

Lol and you probably fabricated this ridiculous theory after stalking my posting history. You're stupid.

That's why I say allowing posters access to another poster's posting history is a tool for stalkers.

reply

And what I wrote above is the reason why we need to see poster's history, to know what to expect.

reply

The theory you created about me was completely far fetched.
No you don't need to read someone's posting history in order to respond to what they write. You're just making up tired excuses for stalking someone.

I've already told you of a movie message board that doesn't have posting histories on profile and people get along just fine. They don't antagonize each other. Their arguments take their course and resolve itself right there in the thread or left on the board it started at because there is no tool to help that angry person follow the other person into other boards to harasses them. Or do what you're doing, starting rumors.

reply

I'm not getting into debates over this. Anyway, seems you're in minority that wants poster's history removed. I've seen that suggestion before, and it usually came from those posters who have something to hide.

reply

[deleted]

Hi Ben. How are things in Troll-land?

It's called troll surveillance, Ben. Not stalking.

reply

[deleted]

Look at how many more problems are occurring all because an asdhole read someone posting history and is starting false rumors.

reply

[deleted]

[deleted]

ZeroDarkDirty is definitely Ben

http://imgur.com/a/qPfWL

reply

What did i say about stalkers? What if this Ben person is deliberately posting my threads there to confuse you?

Ignored for stalking.

reply

dont bother, you are going to get banned eventually

reply

You are Varadero8, a racist stalk-troll. Reported.

reply

stalking? more like exposing

Varadero8? just because our names are similar? try harder

reply

stalk exposing is cool. i should do it more

reply

Only one slight problem.

We all now know who you are and exactly what it is you're doing. Same tired tactics: attacking and lying about others who expose you.

*yawn*

You do realize there are now formal rules on this site, which specify once a user is banned -- which you have been, many times -- they (meaning you) can't create new user names, mask IPs, or otherwise take actions to escape said ban.

Buh bye, Ben.

reply

[deleted]

Lying yet again, little bennie. Your whole life is trolling and lying.

" I am a legitimate user"

That's funnier than Mel Brooks.

See ya, bennie. Don't let the doorknob hitcha where the good lord splitcha

reply

[deleted]

Let's list the qualities of little bennie, shall we?...
1. Scared little crybaby
2. Useless troll
3. Pathological liar
4. Soon to be banned again.

reply

[deleted]

Oh yeah, like that tactic's going to work again [laugh]

reply

[deleted]

Prove it, little bennie. You made the accusation; stop being a sniveling little coward for once in your useless life and prove your statement., Or go away and STFU forever. NOBODY will miss you. NOBODY.

reply

[deleted]

Again, turdo, PROVE IT. No guts, you little coward?

reply

[deleted]

Lying little coward says what? Still waiting for proof of your accusation, bennie-poo.

reply

I started this thread and i am confused about what exactly is going on

reply

Of course it is. Likely so is Terrygg. Little bennie has absolutely nothing else to do with his life than create endless socks to troll. See, ya, bennie. You'll be banned again soon.

reply

I'm not a troll but you definitely are a stalker.

reply

Haven't answered you anywhere but these threads. Busted again, lying little bennie-poo. Try again, turdo.

reply

Stop harassing a user. Reported. Watch your language

reply

You've already been reported for trolling and lying about other posters numerous times, bennie. Busted again. Watch that, turdo

reply

[deleted]

Naps, I'm not down with the name-calling, but otherwise you're of course right.

Stalking means following someone to other threads they've posted in and harassing them. Taking a look at someone's posting history /= stalking, lol!

But then even Ben & His Socks knows that and is simply using his same worn-out tactics, in the vain hope someone might not know any better.

reply

The thing is you cannot avoid them because your posting history is on display for anyone to use it to do anything they like. The function of posting history doesn't have positive results at all.

I think it should be removed.

reply

On Imdbarchive.com you can hide your posting history from other users. Jim should do it here.

reply

Yeah. That's a great idea.

reply

[deleted]

Because i should be comfortable at any forum I post at.

Why do you need to stalk someone's posting history? That's the main question.

reply

[deleted]

If you've nothing to hide why would you?

Who do you think you are, the China government?

Well this isn't about secrets. This is about stopping cyber bullies and stalkers.
You don't need to read anyone's posting history because it's none of your damn business which boards we post on.

reply

"This is about stopping cyber bullies and stalkers."

No it's not, It's about you whining and crying because you can't troll anymore, bennie

reply

And you've proven yourself to be a stalking bully that has nothing better to do than study people's posting history so that you can bully then.

Posting histories are useless. They need to be removed.

reply

[deleted]

Where would the world be if nobody voiced their concerns. I am trying to help stop stalkers and bullies. What are you doing?

reply

[deleted]

LOL, of course it's about secrets. You just didn't like it that Apris exposed your not only knowing, but posting about BenCaesar and then, what do you know? Months after his being banned, he revived his banned account and replied to you.

Aww, too bad. I can see why you wouldn't want transparency.

reply

[deleted]

Lying and attacking those who expose you isn't going to work, Ben. Or accusing them of the things you do.

reply

[deleted]

You're an idiot if you think I am Ben. Lol

This is the exact reason why posting histories are useless. I believe Ad min would know who Been is. Why Don't you report him for being Ben? Oh wait you can't because the person that you think is Ben hasn't broken the TOS.
Stupid.

reply

If you've nothing to hide why would you?

And that is the million dollar question, except we already know the answer to it ;)

reply

Yup. Bennie's getting desperate again; he always tries to flip other's posts when he does. And always fails like the useless troll he is.

reply

[deleted]

Desperate or desperately bored ;). Yeah, that's what he always does, and people always see through it.

reply

Yep. Have to admit his fake outrage and BS accusations are hilarious sometimes. They get funnier as he gets more desperate. But make no mistake; he's nothing but a gigantic waste of oxygen.

reply

stop talking to yourself. do you have no friends? lol

reply

Talking to myself...hmmm..you mean like you do constantly, little bennie-turd? Sorry; don't do that. That's your specialty. Nice but desperate try.

reply

[deleted]

So why are you arguing with a troll? Why don't you take your own advice and USE IGNORE. Hmm?

reply

I never advised anyone to use ignore. I sad to ignore them. Big difference, but then someone as stupid as you wouldn't grasp it. You're too busy trying to keep all you socks straight, little bennie-turd

reply

Stop talking to yourself

reply

Same old, same old tired routine of accusing others of what you do. I'd have thought you'd learned by now it doesn't work.

reply

[deleted]

These people are idiots. Just read their posting histories. Lol

reply

Stupid stalker s.

Apparently all that studying of my posting history and you still don't know what you're talking about.
Useless posting history feature. All it does is promote stupid stalkers.

reply

"That's why I say allowing posters access to another poster's posting history is a tool for stalkers"

Again, if you feel that way, don't post here. Simple. Bye.

reply

I'm gonna get rid of that feature and you're going to help me do it by proving how the feature does more harm than good. I'll make you the example.
So enjoy stalking me for as long as it lasts. Follow me onto another board and I guarantee that you'll hang yourself. Stupid.

reply

Nice try, bennie-turd. Won't work. You're terrified of being banned again. So obvious it's a joke.

reply

Do you even know what causes a ban? Stupid.

reply

Yeah...acting exactly as you are, little bennie-turd. Hopefully more of your BS posts will be deleted

reply

Aw, poor wittle bennie-troll... Wha' happen? Your shiny new little BS call-out thread got deleted!
Gonna cry some more now?

reply

Yup. Exactly.

reply

I'm just going to let the moderators deal with the trolls. I'm not going to waste my time going through someone's posting history.

reply

It really does not serve a purpose other than for the intended person. I think it should be an option of keeping it or making it invisible to people who view one's profile. Troll or not, it seems more ethical to keep discussions private. If someone is a troll or a stalker, there is always the ignore button and if it gets to be too much, you can always harass the heck out of Jim until he bans them. LOL!!

It's all Jim's fault.

reply

Ignore didn't work at IMDb so why would it work here? Also, people use your posting history to get others to gang up on you. There are no rules in TOS that protect users from stalkers and bullies.

reply

If you ignored someone, it should work. It would block out anything the other person posts right?

But I think threads, one has visited, is kind of private. Idk...I always thought of it as a discussion between you and the OP.

reply

It doesn't work.

reply

Hopefully someone gets on it.

reply

The only solution is to remove posting histories from the public.

reply

Or for you to stop griping here and go elsewhere. Not gonna change; accept it or get the hell over it.

reply

[deleted]

No it won't, little trollboy bennie. And again, if you're so unsatisfied, take your crybaby griping elsewhere. You're the same useless turd you always were. GFY.

reply

There goes the bullying. You just proved how bullies use the posting history. I should stalk your posting history. I'm sure that I'll find something to bully you about. Lol
See how you like it...

reply

I don't give a rat's butt what you do, little bennie-troll. Go for it.

reply

[deleted]

It works fine. He's lying, as always

reply

He seems different. I remember him just a few days ago and he was normal. Now he is everywhere.

reply

That's bennie-turd's typical MO.

reply

MO?

reply

Google it

reply

https://www.google.com/#q=MO

"Altria Group, Inc. is an American corporation and one of the world's largest producers and marketers of tobacco, cigarettes and related products. It operates worldwide and is headquartered in Henrico County, Virginia."

reply

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=mo%27

Google usually yields more than one link, right? Try looking further than the first...like the 2nd and 3rd definitions here.

reply

It does, but then it kind of goes off topic. In some cases, like this, one eventually gets to what they were looking for; however, it is still tough to know what exactly what it was that the other person wanted them to look for.

reply

No it doesn't.

Listen believe it or not, the increased traffic on this site is due to my presence. I'm interesting enough to bring in advertisers and more ppeople who want to study my posting history for ideas. I think that you ought to be nicer to me if you wanna keep up the exposure.

If not, I'll leave and you'll be stuck talking to the same 5 people like you have been.

So do you want more traffic or more people for you to chat with or not? If so, then support me in abolishing a feature of this site that encourages stalking and bullying. If not for posting histories and bullies and stalkers using it for harassment, IMDb would probably still have their message board for us.

reply

"The increased traffic on this site is due to my presence"
Major BS lie #1

" I'm interesting enough to bring in advertisers and more people who want to study my posting history for ideas"
Major BS lie #2, and from the turd who was just crybabying about posting histories being available.

" I think that you ought to be nicer to me if you wanna keep up the exposure."
I think you shound ram your head up your own butt and leave it there.

"If not, I'll leave" PLEASE do. The site would improve 100%

"So do you want more traffic or more people for you to chat with or not?" People. Not troll turds like you, little bennie

"then support me in abolishing a feature of this site that encourages stalking and bullying" Nice try once again, little bennie-turd. Not gonna work. FO. Twice.

reply

First of all, Ben posts pornographic images, rarely posts on individual boards and he uses silly troll usernames.

I haven't done any of those things.

Secondly, Ben never ignores anyone and he spams A LOT. Not just a few thread topics. Ben would have this entire board full of nonsense thread topics. Ben also impersonates other posters.

I have done none of those things.

Thirdly, you don't even know your enemy and it is obvious that you're reading posting histories to stalk and gang up on people that make you angry. The thing is, it doesn't take much to set you off. You're a hot headed mean person.

I read how you treated that new poster in your thread about ignoring trolls. Learn to take your own advice.

One last thing before I place you on ignore.

That new poster was right. We should stop bickering and start ignoring, which ironically was your advice to the board. Learn to take your own advice. Stop playing police. Stop arguing with people. Start using ignore.

reply

Nice try, bennie-turd. FAIL. Oh; and why put me on ignore, when you already claimed it doesn't work? Can't even keep up with your own socks, you pathetic loser

reply

But if someone is giving me a hard time, then I click their profile to see that they constantly post under "The Fast and the Furious boards", then I know they are not to be taken seriously.

reply

[deleted]

I take it you've posted under The Fast and the Furious multiple times then.

reply

[deleted]

STOP BULLYING SAMOANJOES!

;)

reply

I'm actually stalking. Bullying is an entirely different behavior. Stupid.

reply

You sound like an idiot[/b] who should probably [b]stop watching stupid movies[/b]. But I guess [b]you do it to troll the board.

This is BULLYING!!!1

Unless you replied to his posts and harassed him, that's not stalking [eyeroll]

reply

[deleted]

I'm a stalker.

reply

Lol! Me too! Terrygg is so unbelievably stupid because posting histories are there to be used by friends who want to sift through the bullshit and answer other intelligent members' posts, Sug.

reply

I'm stalking you!!

:)

reply

I hope it is not removed.
It has the potential to be used for stalking that is true. But the benefits outweigh the risks. It is all about accountability. When the posting history is visible, anyone can check it and see if someone is spamming, is posting the same trolling topics in multiple boards, is harassing multiple people, etc. Patterns of behavior become more obvious. We should all be accountable for everything we post.

reply

Again. There is a report and ignore function for you to stop spamming, flamming, harassment etc. Admin can see your posting history as a tool for upholding the TOS.

So now what is your excuse?

reply

i dont have one

reply

You can't report it if you can't see it, that's the point.
The ignore function works for anyone you think is stalking you as well.
IMO, the positive outweighs the negative. the best disinfectant is sunlight. Allowing people to hide their posts only enables more shenanigans.

reply

Wow I've never seen so many excuses to stalk a person's posting history.
One person says that stalking posting histories gives you a better understanding of that person. Why do you need to understand that much about someone unless you're targeting them for some reason?

Another person says that they stalk posting histories of active posters.

The ignore function doesn't stop stalking because the ignored poster can still view your posts. Everyone gets a notification when someone replies to your post and I've placed a few people on ignore and they still reply back. One guy repeatedly does it.

I noticed that most of the regular posters are the troublemakers. Ironically these regs tell new members to ignore trolls but when a reg does troll behavior, they don't expect to be ignored themselves. The regs say that trolls have no lives, yet the regs are posting everyday like they don't have a life either. And regs say they don't like drama yet they are in all the threads causing drama.

I think all new members should avoid this board where the regs hang out and talk shit all day and night. Once one of the regs sees a new member, they automatically start following them.

I feel sorry for the new members of this site. I wish that I never came here. But since I am here, I'll use as many precautions to avoid as many of the regs on this board as possible.

reply

It is simple. I disagree with you. No bricks of text or baiting will make me agree with you.
trying to call me a stalker will not change my opinion. Having history visible means that anyone can easily see it's not true.
When you post a thread asking for change, that will sometimes happen. it's opening a door to discussion, and not everyone has to agree with you.
You are allowed your opinion, and other people are also allowed theirs, even if it's not the same as yours.

reply

Online forums have been turned into social media.

I guess the people that disagree with me are stalkers because it is impossible for a person to avoid certain people if your posting history is on display for the public to search through and follow your posts. We should be able to choose who we want to follow us just like Facebook or Google+.

reply

You literally posted above that you are a stalker.

" [–] Terrygg (515) a day ago
I'm actually stalking."

reply

I was being sarcastic. I don't stalk.

I think this conversation is done. I've said what I had to say. You all said what you had to say. Hopefully Jim will listen to reason and remove our posting histories from our profiles because at this rate, people aren't going to stay on this site if stalkers are allowed to access their posting history.

reply

According to your own definition, last night you not only stalked SamoanJoe, but me as well. That is, searching our posting history and replying to various posts we've made (often disparagingly) for this purpose. Don't try to squirm out of it now by saying you were being sarcastic.

I don't see anyone here who's used your posting history to follow you and reply to your posts, disparagingly or otherwise.

I did look over some of your posting history this morning (you'll note that I didn't feel compelled to respond to any of your posts), mostly on the new Alien film board, where you've been most active. From what I pieced together, you're regularly insulting -- as you've been here on this thread -- to anyone who doesn't agree with you, and then report their posts.

You've already said you thought this site or board was boring, that all of the intelligent and polite posters went to tMDb, and you like it better there than here for these reasons, in addition to being able to hide your posting history there.

If I preferred another board so much, you can be certain that's where I'd go to post, as any reasonable person would do. And yet, you don't.

reply

Good response, Cat. Little bennie is certainly a tenacious turdo, isn't it? Could well be the biggest loser on the internet

reply

Cat,
As per you:
"That is, searching our posting history and replying to various posts we've made (often disparagingly) for this purpose."

I prefer to read intelligent posters such as you, SentientMeat, Popcorn Kernel, napsdufroid, et al. So, is it stalking to search your all's history and make a comment (such as this)? Most of the time I just do a cursory read, but with this thread I wanted to lash out at the jerk "Terrygg" and his/her aliases, socks, but I kept my tongue. All he/she continued to do was whine, gripe, threaten to Ignore and to leave, but he/she never did! Oh well, sociopaths...can't live with them...but sure would like to live WITHOUT them!

reply

Hi Ksp :)

Thanks for the nice compliment to me and other posters here :). I would say no, because your intent isn't to harass or disparage anyone, just seeing what people whose posts you enjoy are up to, commenting if you have something to say, and otherwise not.

I do the same thing from time to time. Back on IMDb, I had a number of people on my Friends list, and would check in here and there to see if they were posting, what they were posting, and which films and TV shows they were watching. Sometimes I'd comment, usually not, and sometimes just to say a quick hello.

reply

Hi again Cat,
Thanks for your reply. I may not post frequently, but I do try to keep up with certain topics...namely you all pointing out who the blasted trolls are. I don't want to give them fodder for the grist mill by replying to them.

BTW, to those who were chagrinned over non-mods denoting who the trolls are, if you aren't one it should be "no sweat". We all have a right to calls it as we sees it! Just sayin'.....

reply

You mean bennie LIED? Who could possibly believe that? All that worthless troll ever does is lie

reply

"I guess the people that disagree with me are stalkers"

Wrong again, bennie-troll. They're called normal. You, however, are nothing but a lying loser

reply

I think it's a good feature, especially in light of the semi-inactive status of lot of the boards. It's helpful to know where reasonably current discussions with active MC members are happening.

reply

How could you even determine if someone is an active user to begin with? It's not as if that were on display.

Have you seen the trending feature on the homepage of this site? It shows all the titles that have active posts. I read the trending list to find active boards and after I watch a movie, I will usually visit its board and I oftentimes leave a post. When a new post is made to a board, that board appears among the list of trending titles.

That's how you make the individual boards active. You don't need to stalk active posters around the site. Our posting histories shouldn't be on display for everyone to read.

I wouldn't mind sharing my posting history with a group of friends though, like an exclusive friend's list. An friend's list would be ideal. We could follow each others posting history.

What I don't want the general public following me around the site. And although I'm mindful of the fact this is a public forum, I don't want to talk to just anybody who wants to barge into my discussion with someone else because I've seen that happen.

TL;Dr
If we were to compare this public online forum to a public place, you'd understand what I'm trying to say. Now it could be argued that online forums are not real life therefore you cannot compare the two. But keep in mind that online forums are subject to the same type of socialization as real life.
And Doxxing can lead to someone having their real life in danger by physical harm or by theft.
I believe that there is only a very thin line separating real life and online communities.

My point is that if Jim could create a script for a friend request. If the friend request is granted, then that poster has access to your posting history.

Does that sound fair enough?

Give it up, bennie

I really don't understand the concerns of "stalking" when a person is making these posts on an open, public forum. There is a very nice direct messaging feature that can be used if you're looking for a private discussion that can't be intruded on.

But looking to basically establish private groups within the MC community that would hide content from everyone else strikes me as a bad idea for a site that is looking to gain traction among the imdb refugee diaspora. The single biggest issue that is facing all of the spinoff boards is the limited posting activity as compared to what everyone is used to from imdb. Private groups would further limit what is already a somewhat limited resource.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

reply

I've decided to leave anyway. This site barely has traffic. Hardly anyone wants to discuss movies and television series not just on this site but at other sites and the people that do post are annoying.

I'm going back to IMDb to read what it has to offer.

reply

Thank the Universe, you are a very destructive person and added nothing of pertinent in tellectual value. Lol! You also are too ignorant to understand that friends use the posting history feature to reply to their friends' posts. You are emotionally challenged too. Goodbye. You also sent me a pm that violates the rules so Terrygg you are a manipulative idiot who should be banned. Don't come back, weirdo.

reply

Well, the message boards are obviously gone, but there are still a ton of user movie reviews. The Force Awakens alone had 4,000+ reviews, so there's plenty to read.

reply

IMDb is more than a site to read movie reviews. Even still, reading user reviews is infinitely more interesting than chatting with any of the posters here. Chatting about movies is lame because the people chatting are lame. No wonder IMDb got rid of their message boards.

no bye thanks

Memes are what trolls use. I'm placing you on ignore.

You've promised that about 17 times to 17 different posters, loser. And you claimed ignore doesn't work earlier. Again, you need to remember all your socks, little bennie, you crybaby coward.

reply

Ah damn!! Ignored again!! 😂😜

reply

What are you up to ?

I've been ignored twice that I know of.

I din do nuffin!!!! 🙊🙊🙊🙊

I hardly believe that to be true.

How many ignores you think you got.
Don't disappoint me.

Uhhhh... 2? LOL

I'm not talking about the first day . :)

Now why would anyone ignore you? 😊

reply

That's what I'm talking about.

Makes absolutely no sense, right.

They have no idea what they're missing.
They could have all of this and choose not to.

I could have sworn in this post you were asking me how many ignores YOU got, not how many I have LOL.

I was like WTF is she talking about.

reply
