How do I delete this account?

need to find a more decent site

reply

Why? What happened?? I'd hate to see you go, Phantom!

I don't know how one deletes one's account here. If there isn't an option for that under our username accounts, I suppose you could write to Jim and ask.

But I hope you'll reconsider.

reply

Wilson offended him/her

reply

So that's how it's working now?

reply

Hm, thanks, Velox. I see what you mean. Not that I'm surprised.

That happened long after I put him on ignore.

Phantom, I'm still hoping you'll reconsider.

reply

Wilson is probably the most controversial user in moviechat, Wilson why invite trouble when you can avoid them?

Phantom8
if you dont like someone you can always ignore them, dont need to leave, please stay.

reply

Hilary voter eh?

reply

Naw, don't leave us! 😨

But if you really want to "delete" your account, you could probably just go and delete all your posts.

reply

If it was that Wilson guy, just put him on Ignore.

There's a lot of other places to go on MovieChat, or you can still come to the General Discussion area and not see his posts anymore. He has this history, and has admitted to wanting to troll mods (to test something, as if he's a scientist), to push message board boundaries by using certain offensive words, and then act like a scholar on the subject as he continues to antagonize users in reply after reply. He's part of the toxic crew that enjoys harassing more than discussing movies.

He is also a Trump supporter.

Maybe this is where he primarily gets his daily social interaction.

reply

atomic, I was seriously reading your post till I came up to the word "scholar" then I started laughing, he's as much a scholar as I am a fighter pilot. but here's the thing, he can push boundaries, use offensive words, test people, troll all he wants, there is nothing I can do about it, short of putting him on ignore, but I won't be part of a board that allows that, I'm not a snob, I can cuss with the best of them, but there's a place for that, it's just a matter of principal.

reply

Wilson --> ignored 5 seconds after ignore button appeared.

I have just put two other trolls on ignore since, but after that general discussions board has again become a nice place to visit.

reply

Who were the other ones?

reply

Two other socks of Wilson I believe. One I think was called "God" and I forgot what the other nick was. Can't check it now either as all his posts and threads are thankfully invisible to me :)

reply

I think "God" was Ben's, not Wilson's.

reply

Yeah? Well, I just remember Wilson's vile posts getting constantly suspiciously positive responses from a couple of other nicks, and vice versa. Also sometimes answering posts addressed to one of the other nicks (like they forgot which they were supposed to be at the time).

Ah well. I leave it up to Jim and the mods to deal with this at their leisure. Sad if people want to leave because of these trolls, but then again the ignore button is there for this reason.

reply

The ignore button is there for precisely this reason.

reply

I have ignored Wilson four times. No one else I ignored reappeared. That means he/she/it had four accounts with similar names.

reply

Woah, woah, woah. Wait a minute. Hold up.

He has four accounts?!
Or is someone imperonating him?

reply

Thats a lot of socks

reply

All I know is that the name kept showing up, and I like Mahrez blocked him as soon as the ignore came available. Then there it would be again, and I swear I put it on ignore four times. I guess Wilson is eternal.

I have blocked all the usual trolls, the Bens and the people who accuse everyone of racism, and the board is much better now, but I wish I could get those two guys back who troll the I Need to Know by identifying every movie as "The Boat Ride." In retrospect that was kind of amusing.

Also, Phantom8 don't go.

reply

[deleted]

Yeah, they would take turns, with one account asking for the title and the other one saying The Boat Ride. It was probably the same person. I still don't know what The Boat Ride was a reference to.

reply

I've seen Smithtutti on one other site, in the need to know section, asking about the same movie. I don't recall if someone answered him "The Boat Ride" though.

reply

[deleted]

It's not a bit funny, and I have a high tolerance for people who need a lot of clarification because I have a high-functioning autistic child who keeps asking questions about things that would seem obvious to most; a lot of people who spend time online seem to be on the spectrum, so I was having what I thought was a serious discussion with him but then he told me that getting offended by the word c**t was culturally insensitive to the British and I knew I'd been trolled. I can't stand those high effort trolls. They discuss something to death with you and then they find what they think is a chink in your armor and start twisting your words. And we especially don't need any more accusations of "isms" in the world today in terms of archaic word definitions/made up microaggressions when there are so many real problems.

reply

That's the reason why I jump.

reply

[deleted]

That doesn't sound like casual racism or, rather, bigotry, to me. That sounds very deliberate and purposeful.

You're right, the C word is offencive to many in the UK. To pretend it's otherwise is to be purposely misleading. Again, he's driven by his own agenda. Luckily most see through it now.

reply

No, it isn't funny, and there's no mistake at this point that trolling is exactly what he's doing.

As you've said several times before, he has an agenda. He aligned with the troll Ben (& socks) early on against having moderators. For some bizarre reason he's fixated on me as a target ( Should I be flattered? ;) -- were a troll, I'm sure I'd find all the negative attention fulfilling) and to my knowledge still hasn't let up. More recently he's spread out to targeting many others.

His calling people racists is simply a means to what he thinks is his end. He didn't want mods here, but now we have them, so he lost, and is sore about it. That's it in a nutshell.

reply

[deleted]

Yeah, it does seem like he's two completely different people sometimes, but his posting history seems to be the same.... I'm confuzzled.

reply

Yes. You can see all posts from all the people you blocked by looking at the board while NOT signed in.

reply

Very strange. Like Mahrez, I ignored him the day we got the button, and he's never reappeared for me since.

reply

Maybe it was a glitch for me.

reply

Maybe so, since Dazed said it'd happened to him/her a few times.

reply

@Catbookss

Cat, I can't get rid of Wilson! I have put him on ignore over 5 times, but he keeps showing up like a bad penney! This last lewd post of his went over the line! His OP is listed in my Notifications due to my reply to the post. How do I delete it? If I click on it, here's Wilson again! It shows up in my History on my IPad which I delete, but it's an endless loop as long as the Notification appears.

reply

Ksp, really? Have you been logged in when she continues to show up? If not, and it's not merely a weird glitch, I don't know what the explanation is.

reply

@Cat

I'm currently logged in, checked my Notifications, and his damn post title is still showing! I can't get rid of the thing!

reply

Ksp, do you mean his post title is showing in your email notifications? If so, I believe it's because Jim had to cobble together the ignore feature very quickly, and there are still some bugs to be worked out.

We shouldn't be getting notifications (via email, or the bell) when someone we've put on ignore responds to one of our posts. Nor should anyone we haven't put on ignore who responds to a post of someone who is, be invisible to us. But for now that's how it is.

I'm sure it'll get worked out in time :)

reply

@Cat

Not to e-mail. I don't have mine listed. It's on the bell notifications. It's so damn ugly!

*********************************************************************************************
Well, I had time to reflect, after thinking that one foul mouth jerk is not worth me leaving a site that I like, I took the advise of some that urged me not to leave, I just put him on ignore and now I don't have to see his posts, thank you all that cared.
***********************************************************************************************

reply

@phantom8

Check your Notifications. I put him on Ignore, but when I replied with disgust, someone made a reply to my reply which alerted the bell. His/her lewd post still shows the lewd OP language in my Notifications. If I click on it...there's Wilson's original lewd OP. It never ends!

Edited

reply

@ kspkap...I know, just found that out, I just hope his mom finds out he's using her computer and takes it away from him.

reply

@phantom8

He/she can be vile! I want that bell notification off my list. Every time I check the list I see the lewd word. I think I'm going to delete my posts in order to attempt a remedy.

reply

Phantom, I'm very glad to hear it! :D

Exactly right, one foul-mouthed troll isn't worth you (or anyone) leaving a site that they like.

reply

good to hear

YO YO!

Can I get some litigation shit going on in here please?

Quite clearly I am being picked on here.

Look at theses replies! Blocked 4 times!!

Yup, time for theses children to be put into the sin bin.

I am shocked that this is expected to be treated as normal, what a state for new-comers to find. You should all be ashamed!

Catbookss should be banned and anyone saying otherwise should bet a permanent KKK label attacched to their account.

reply

Dazed told me that he put me on ignore a long time ago because I'm obnoxious..blah blah..and now he's showing up in my threads.

uh.....what's up with that?
Wayy tooo much drama on the front page. It looks bad for newcomers. Plus, they need to simply move onnnn with their lives once they put someone on ignore. Harping on and on about how much they hate cussing and other posters.

It's just mean spirited.

Can't others decide on their own if someone is awful or not....

reply

You're not going to find a single site on the internet with absolutely no trolls. Just use the ignore feature. It's not perfect, and i'm still hoping it will be upgraded to a full block feature, but it's better than nothing. This site is still finding its footing, doesn't have much in the way of proper moderation yet, but it's still brand new. I'd suggest giving it more time before throwing in the towel. There's a lot of positive potential here, and every good user who surrenders to the trolls only weakens the site and gives the trolls exactly what they want. They want to spoil the experience for everyone else and make it all about them. Of course you're free to leave but i'd advise giving it another chance. Or maybe even just take a temporary break and come back later.

reply

Can you instruct me on how to delete a bell notification? I replied about the lewd post...someone replied to my reply....therefore the OP title is in the notification.

reply

It doesn't seem that there's a way.

reply

Don't worry about it for now, Ksp. Just ignore and scroll past it. Eventually it'll be taken care of, unless you post in a thread with an objectionable title and someone replies to your post. In which case, just avoid posting in threads with titles you find lewd or otherwise objectionable.

I agree with Kawanda, there's a *lot* of positive potential here and leaving as a result of trolls' inane and childish posts is only giving into them, and giving them exactly what they want.

reply

@Cat,

As per you:"unless you post in a thread with an objectionable title and someone replies to your post. In which case, just avoid."

Thanks! I learned that lesson the hard way. I came to the same conclusion, so I'm going to delete my reply to see if the reply I rcvd will disappear. phantom8 has the same problem I'm having. If that doesn't work, I'll use my new account....the one with the added "s". Wilson is on ignore in that account. BTW, is it a he or a she....wilson?

reply

Ksp, no worries. Good idea. Deleting your post on that or any other thread that's title you find objectionable, and not posting on any more, should take care of the problem.

As to if Wilson's a he or a she, who knows.

reply

OK, here's what you do. You hit the "LOG OUT" button. Then................you never log back in.

DONE!
