One thing I don't like about Streaming

Are the limited playback features. This is one of the main reasons I keep going back to physical media and pretty much abandoned the idea of using a network player (at least for the time being). Am I alone on this? I keep missing the ability to play back at different speeds or advance frame by frame. It doesn't particularly bother me with streaming services, but I'd rather have more versatile playback functions especially when watching something I own or paid money for. Are there any players or software that more closely mimic the features of a standalone player?

I use VLC. It's a video player that plays basically any kind of file and gives you fine-grained control over every aspect of the video.

You should also look into browser extensions. I remember seeing one that allows you to slow down/speed up any video on any webpage.

VLC is great for playing videos on my computer but the VLC smart app for my TV is just awful. Basic functions like fast forwarding and rewinding are counter intuitive. It skips so many frames or even entire minutes of the movie. There's also a useless feature where you can input manually the exact time you want to arrive at the movie.

you can plug your computer into your tv with an HDMI cable, if you get a long enough cable you could control it from your lap.
