I Am In Favor Of Deletion Or Categorization Of Threads Not Movie Related [Thread Closed]

There was a thread I saw on here about religion. I understand that there should be freedom of speech, but neither politics nor religion should be in here. Now, if there is a movie or t.v. series that has either of these, then it should be okay to write about within those threads.

Me too, especially since that thread was started by a troll to stir up shit. But we'll have to wait some time for that to happen cause we are in an interregnum kind of period where rules are not set up quite yet.

I'm getting really sick of you people thinking you OWN this website! First the ignore list and now this. You're constantly making suggestions about what should or shouldn't be here and then that wishy washy admin makes accommodations for you.

Let me tell you something. You don't run this place. This isn't a democracy. You're all trolls trying to be normal posters. You pick on newbies and start rumors about them. Almost every board has negative comments about the topic and you're actually part of the problem here. Nobody worthwhile is going to join this site so keep making suggestions to change this place, keep fooling yourself into thinking that anyone other than your very small group actually enjoys posting here. Keep thinking that you can manipulate Admin into increasing traffic when he implements your stupid demands.

Tmdb.org is superior to this site in every way. Sorry to say but it's the truth. Admin needs to quit listening to you people and start immulating tmdb.org example otherwise this site is going to peter away into oblivion.

Also, the new members that start threads like this "Hi! I'm new here." = sock account trying to trick people into believing newbies are accepted here. And it's so obviously a sock account because everyone is nice to the posters yet rude to other new posters who have fewer than 20 posts. You think that people are stupid?!

And Arvin is the worst person on this site! So stop pretending to be a nice and helpful person cuz you're NOT! You're actually making this place worse. Stop micromanaging this place!

reply

Please feel free to ignore me and my posts. TY.

So i visited the TMDB site you promoted here. I find it difficult to navigate and at least for ME the site does not format properly on the screen and I am unable to view pages in full (using Firefox).
I have had no such problems here. Its asinine to encourage someone to emulate or copy someone else s site since the site already exists anyway and what is the point of duplicating it.
I think this is more of a veiled promotion of another site
As to the original subject; posts should be related to the subject, movie, person, of discussion. Posts not related to the subject should be directed to boards that are not movie related.
Those who continually violate these common sense rules should have posting quotas in place and ultimately removed from the boards if they can not follow reasonable guidelines.
This "free speech" notion is hogwash. there is a proper time and place for speaking about specific subjects. Providing alternate places for specific talk gives people the option of seeking the appropriate place for what they have to say. IF they cant do that, re read what I said about how to handle those who cant follow reasonable rules.

reply

First of all this is the general discussion board so any subject falls under that category. Secondly, it's not our fault that your browser sucks so you are forced to be on this site. Thirdly, I wasn't promoting tmdb.org even though the posters there are more polite and nicer than here.

reply

"I wasn't promoting tmdb.org"

Yeah, "barclays," you totally were. Your post above:

"Tmdb.org is superior to this site in every way." and "Admin needs to quit listening to you people and start immulating tmdb.org example. (bad grammar/spelling yours)"

That's promoting the site, "barclays." And if you truly feel that way and think this site is inferior, well...you know....

reply

I am NOT FORCED to be HERE or anywhere else. As far as saying my browser "sucks", I might find reason to believe that except for the fact that I dont generally have problems at most sites I visit.
What I was pointing out was that MOVIE or ACTOR posts belong on pages related to those discussions. Posts of general discussions belong in places such as this page.
As far as "niceness", there are nice people and not so nice people on any site.
YOU WERE promoting the other site whether you wish to admit it or not, and has already been commented on, you made a point of the superiority of the other site and the inferiority of this one and have now furthered that with indications that people are nicer there as opposed to here.
I might suggest that perhaps you should take you discussions THERE as opposed to here if you feel that it is more to your liking.
I prefer to be HERE and not simply because I am FORCED to be (in you estimation). I will promise to play nice, at least with nice people. That is what I did on IMDB.
The truth is that there are those who's sole purpose is to destroy and take down anything that decide to invade. That is what happened to IMDB and it could happen here and TMDB as well.
Its sad that sites have to "police" the boards to try to veep some sort of order there but it is a reality.
I did a strictly random "spot check" on TMDB on the movie "Dark Tower". I clicked on a particular post that was critical of the movie which was long winded. It ended with "I hope this movie fails". So I take that to mean the Hell with those who may like the movie, its MY opinion that matters. The reply was a guy that didnt even comment on the post, he simply did a self promotion of his U Tube channel.
The a-holes are wherever they want to be
TMDB is completely and totally useless and ANYTHING but a "go-to" site for real movie information. IMDB has been around for decades and does a more than decent job of what it does do. Unfortunately that is not discussions anymore

reply

The fact that you're having difficulty navigating tmdb is actually a personal issue. The discussions are there. You just have to search like you do here. I have never had any issue navigating on that site nor this one. Tmdb may look different but the only other difference between that site and this one is that the general chat board was removed because of the trolls infested it. The site owner, Travis, didn't want that image so he deleted that board. Now the site looks more inviting to the public.

A lot of the ideas given for this site's improvement are inspired by tmdb. So believe it or not there is a competition between all these movie related forums with each other. I like this site as well. The other difference is that I have more options when posting at both sites. What isn't discussed here is discussed over there and sometimes I can find a cool group of posters here to interact with about the movies and tv.

Everyone has a different perspective that interests me while other times, the same type of discussions are found at both sites. Whether you like this site over the other one is a small factor once you understand that both sites compliment each other. I only say that tmdb is superior because overall tmdb looks more professionally crafted and the crowd there are much more educated. There is more individuality over there whereas on this site, the posters behave like a gang. The reason they are able to gang up on other posters is because of the posting history. The trolls like Arvin, who target me, always mention that they follow my posting history. Tmdb doesn't have user's posting histories available to the public. Posters at tmdb don't start rumors about other posters either. The crowd at tmdb are much more mature.

I still like this place sometimes though. But I get attacked more here than I do over there which doesn't look good for this site's reputation.

One other important difference -- Moviechat has the archived imdb discussion threads; tmdb doesn't.

reply

That doesnt mean much because I found out that the majority of those posters don't post here anyway.

reply

So? Even if they are "dead" threads, the content is still valuable. I almost never posted on imdb, but I would always go there after a movie and 9 times out of 10 any question I had about that movie was already answered and fully discussed.

reply

So? So what if the movie or whatever was already answered or discussed? All you need to do is reply anyway. That's what people are doing in my thread on the GoT board and the thread is a lively discussion.

reply

Once again, "barclays," if you don;t like it here and you think it's inferior, leave. Easy solution.

reply

On eBay, most boards are selling, buying, PayPal, or category-related. They have one board called The Soapbox, a haven for misc musings, funny things, politics and rants. A Soapbox here would be a great idea, maybe attract most of the religious or politics or fluffy posts away from here.

reply

There are forums for religion and politics. If there is a thread for that here, there is going to be a definite influx of trolls and civil unrest.

reply

Well I'm just giving a choice between deleting threads or directing them elsewhere. Some people avoid the Soapbox because of people venting about misc. topics, some people love it. eBay keeps it around just for that reason, even moves off-topic posts over there when they show up on another topic-specific board. Which is pretty rare.

reply

Actually, there is a Soapbox board here, it's way down at the bottom of, General Boards.

reply

Whoo-Hoo! Thanks, I hadn't gotten around to scrolling THAT far down!

reply

Anytime Blue Eyes! 😊

reply

freedom of speech does not apply in an environment like this.

reply

Right. This is NOT a democracy (unless, of course, our St. Jim says it is.) (Basically a site is whatever it's founder says it is. People can stay, or go, or get BOOTED, from there.)

reply

What are your thoughts on this? I assume if you made your own post on here, you would be against categorization? I only mean categorization so this general post thing is cleaned up. The only posts remaining would be movie posts. You would still be able to access them in their own sections of this site.

reply

Well, it is more or less between the government and the individual person.

So yes, you are right. Among people and private websites, it does not apply.

reply

Or move it to the politics forum.
Since there *is* a proper place for religious and political threads, why not move them instead of deleting them?
But either action would need moderators. Jm is busy building our house so he doesn't have time to waste cleaning up the house. eventually he'll probably get some helpers.

reply

But doesn't it feel odd that on a movie/tv series website, there is discussion on politics and religion? Would a religion and politics forum have a thread about movies?

Well I suppose it could if there were movies that kind of touched on those two topics. I guess if they were moved, it would not be a big deal.

reply

The funny thing is that IMDb actually had a spot for political issues. Heck even President Trump himself was trending on here the other day.

I'm with you, though. There is a time and place to discuss things like that...but I prefer not to discuss matters like that here. This is, after all, a community that is geared more toward films and TV...just like how IMDb was before they went and ruined everything for us. Fortunately, however, all is well with the world again thanks to Jim!

You'll have to excuse her. She is kind of my bully shadow and if you disagree, she may latch onto you as well. Hope all is well jmcd2007!

Me too,I had enough of that...celebrity news.

reply

Too many of them. Or keep them, but they should be in another section of moviechat.org

reply

To be honest,Arvin...I don't care about them.

reply

But you would care if it was about Tomb Raider right?

reply

Again, you hit me in my weak point,Arvin😂😂😂.To be honest...I was really excited for this movie, but after I read about the plot...i'm 90%convinced that Lara will be moked again by hollywood...such a shame.

reply

Yes, they will end up finding another actress that totally does not fit the part.

reply

It doesn't matter who gets the role,Arvin. It's not that easy to play Lara, for any actress. At least,Alicia is trying and I admire her dedication😉

reply

But then the movie is going to be "moked" right?

reply

Yes,Arvin...this movie it's after the 2013 video game...great game, those who played it,know what I mean...and the script has leaked,so I compared the plot for this movie with the game...Lara is a party girl, mathias an agent of Trinity...really!?

Oh,not the movie will be moked,it's Lara.

reply

Oh. How bad is she going to be moked? Is the actress at all like Lara in the game?

reply

Well,Arvin...if you saw the other two movies, then you'll know what I mean.It has nothing to do with archeology, only action, they had some elements from underworld and legend, but nothing else...it's like I saw a MI or james bond movie...in 2013,Lara is still a kid, she's an enexperinced 20 years girl.

reply

They could not even get her age right in the movie? That is pretty bad!

reply

Not only the age,Arvin...but,I will give it a shot and go see it,just for curiosity😉
