IMDb traffic going down significantly!

I hope this is accurate, I believe Alexa.com is a reliable source, it's even an amazon company rofl!

Check the chart... since the message boards went down there has been a steep decline, hopefully it keeps going down and it wasn't a temporary effect, please DO NOT go back to that site until they have put the message boards back on and not only that but have the CEO ***APOLOGIZE***

How did you hotlink your link?

reply

Someone posted a thread that shows how to do it :) http://www.moviechat.org/movies/general/posts/58af568b39d01d0011d2a026

reply

Thanks. I'll have to remember it somehow.

reply

No problemo! I'll have to try to memorize it, too. Not as easy to do these days with so much other stuff cluttering up my mind.

reply

You got that right. Or maybe it's contrary - online dictionaries, grammar check add-ons and other tools have debilitated our brains. Not that long ago I knew many phone numbers, passwords, difficult to type words and many other things by heart, but now I'm forgetting them.

reply

I'm getting the same way with those types of things! It's a wonder I'm able to retain the Spanish words that I'm trying to learn.

reply

I think it's motivation. A necessary factor in learning process. Wait till you'll start to think you got it!

reply

Good point. Now I have to remember to stay motivated. lol

reply

Don't worry, I can't even remember my own phone number. 😲

haaa. that's a joke.

Cutting edge stuff! It's giving me flashbacks to the beginning of the century :)

reply

It's just basic html...

reply

That'll teach them!

reply

see the traffic go up like mad when they announced the closing of the boards and then plummet after closing them. ouch. serves them right

reply

Have been reading how the message boards were such a insignificant part of IMDB. This graph shows very clearly that this was not the case at all.

reply

RiP Imdb =)

I don't think Youtube or Facebook dare to take away their message boards! :D

I always wondered about their apparent conclusion that their message board traffic was too low (and maybe it was, by their estimation, but I think they drew the wrong conclusion about what to do about that), and that message boards were apparently an insignificant part of their site. I wondered, "Really? That's all I really use IMDb for, am I in such exclusive company?" But, at least in the comments sections of every article that covered this news (and okay, yes, there could be a selection bias there), everyone would say, "Really? That's all I really use IMDb for!"

I'm glad it's going down. I make sure not to use the site. I just looked up an actor & instead of using IMDB I just used Google to search for his image.

reply

Yep - so glad it maybe floundering

reply

I don't need an apology. I just need the boards back up....or this one to populate. It's the cleanest one I've seen out there.

reply

If you really want to show you have balls then boycott amazon as well since that's who actually closed the message boards. I haven't used either site since the boards were removed and won't again.

reply

I really soured on Amazon when their kindle devices didn't support streaming apps that were already available on first generation Roku's (and just about every other network player at the time). It seemed like they weren't confident enough in their own streaming platform, even though they had millions to spend on marketing, and a big brand.

They have come a long way from a company that just sold books. The company has simply gotten too big too fast, and it's bad for the consumer.

Tbh I'm beginning to feel that I don't want the IMDb message boards back and would rather this place blossom instead. I want to give IMDb/Amazon my middle finger, and my heart and soul to Jim and this refugee camp. Jim's the one who gives a damn, and it's Jim that is the one who is therefore of any value and worth in my eyes. I'm not someone that takes kindly to financial greed and abandonment.

reply

Bravo! I couldn't have said it any better!

It is clear to me that Jim has been working tirelessly around the clock to make this site as comfy and organized as possible...and I give him a lot of well deserved credit for that. Even though I've probably said it about a dozen times already, I can never stop saying thank you, Jim, for stepping up to the plate and caring about us and this wonderful website that you have.

As for IMDB, even if they do eventually apologize to us and other former users for this obvious fail on their part (and Amazon's as well)...I won't be back either. I know I said this earlier, but it's worth repeating. If they view us as disposable items, then I will view them in the same manner. Being kicked off of those boards was like being kicked out of a longtime club for no reason at all. Glad to know that most of us have re-established that bond again, though, as it truly does make my day. In summary, this is all really wonderful and I feel as if most of you are my good friends even though I can't physically see you (aside from your posts, of course). Just thought that I would put that out there.

reply

Haha, you sweet lil thing you. Count me in as your friend, jmcy, and I'll join forces in sticking to my guns of principles where loyalty and betrayal are concerned. I'm marking my territory in here so IMDb can go f**k themselves.

I'd totally be up for being Jim's cheerleader.

reply

I second that motion. 😃

Third! :)

fourth!

"I'm marking my territory in here so IMDb can go f**k themselves."

AMEN to that!

Please put this site in your bookmarks, your bookmarks toolbar on top and whatever smart phone users do to bookmark a site! That way there'll be no fumbling around to find it and this will become as much of a go-to site as IMDb once was. Don't let it be a passing fancy. I also don't care if IMDb brings boards back. First, sites rarely admit they're wrong... eBay messed up their help/discussion boards several times over the last few years, and will never admit they made things worse.

This is different, I don't think the Boards were just a "small feature" of IMDb, something they would quickly reverse on. I think it was much a bigger part therefore their ego may not be able to swallow their mistake.

Done and done! Did it earlier today and have been typing away throughout the day!
