Rue McClanahan tv movies

I loved Miracle Dogs and, especially, Rue 's performance!

Thank you for creating this great guide to Rue's TV movies! I love Rue on "Golden Girls" and I have every season on dvd, but I haven't seen too many of her TV movies. I've wanted to see "After the Shock" for a while, but it sounds like she doesn't have a terrific part.

She did three of those "___________ of the Bride" movies, but whenever I tried watching one of them I just couldn't get into it.

I bought that double feature dvd that has two of her old black and white movies from the sixties- "Hollywood After Dark" and "The Rotten Apple". It was great to see Rue so young, and she has the lead role in "Hollywood After Dark".

I've also seen 2 of her rare movies from the early '70s:

-"Some of My Best Friends Are..." This entire movie takes place in a gay bar and Rue looks BEAUTIFUL! She has long hair and a red dress on- this movie is the best I've ever seen Rue look... but the movie isn't very good. They used to frequently air this movie on cable.

-"The People Next Door" (1970) with Cloris Leachman. Rue has only one scene as a secretary. I wasn't crazy over this movie either.

I did like " Take My Daughters Please " from 1988 . Surprisingly that was the only one I remembered of hers from so long ago . I'm glad she had more TV Movies than just this one ( and I so miss this actress too ) . Thanks jgiles20 for your subject post .

As I mentioned earlier, although I LOVE Rue on "Golden Girls", she never seemed to get the best TV movies. (the 3 "...of the Bride" movies were particularly bad.)

But I recently saw an EXCELLENT Rue TV movie. I would say that it was her all-time best TV movie (It's also the only one I've seen that completely stars her; every scene is about where she goes and what she does):

To My Daughter (1990) Rue stars as a single woman with 3 adult children. Two of them still live at home with her, and the third (Michelle Greene) has become a successful writer in LA. When Michelle visits home, it becomes clear that Michelle is her favorite child. One day Rue gets a phone call, telling her that Michelle is dying of cancer. Rue flies to LA, but doesn't tell her 2 other children that their sister is dying. After Michelle's death, Rue grows even more distant with her other two children. I think this was Rue's best dramatic performance ever captured on film. It's a great part (it's the kind of TV movie that usually went to Patty Duke or Meredith Baxter). I highly recommend it!

I've just watched "Miracle Dogs" (2003), co-starring Ted Shackleford, Kate Jackson, Stacy Keach and some really cute English springer spaniels, and I found it delightful and heartwarming. It was also inspiration hearing Rue talk about her battle with breast cancer in the bonus features. So sad she's no longer with us, but her films and TV roles provide "Golden" memories of this wonderful actress.

I just watched another one of Rue's TV movies:

Take My Daughters, Please (1988) Ensemble comedy with Rue as the mother of 4 adult women who are all single. Rue tries to find husbands for all 4 women. Although she has first billing, Rue only has a large supporting role in this movie that is centered around the 4 daughters. Audra Lindley plays Rue's best friend, and Deidre Hall plays Rue's oldest daughter. This movie has a few great scenes, but the movie as a whole is not terrific.

I'd like to see this one. I love both Rue and Audra Lindley, so I'm sure I would enjoy seeing it just to see them.

Yes, "Take My Daughters, Please" is fun- I just wish Rue and Audra had a little more screen time.

"To My Daughter", which I talked about earlier, is Rue's all-time best TV movie, imo..
