Anyone hoping that Dunkirk will revive the historical epic genre?

Since it's a summer release and might prove a financial success bigger than Saving Private Ryan. *fingers crossed*

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

If the film is DUN correctly. LOL. No, but really. I think it could shed some light on WWII pre-Normandy beach invasion. Maybe Matt Damon will make a cameo as one of the Ryan brothers. I can see the film going in 2 different directions. Both would be successful. The start of the film could be the evacuation of Dunkirk and the end of the film could be the battle of Britain. Obviously, Nolan wants to tell the story of how Great Britain fought off Nazi Germany. Refusing to give in. I could look on and see a film like that being successful. There's enough material to tell a war epic. However, I could also see a narrative based around time. How much time do we need? Hitler was obviously overusing his men. Supplies were rationed. All we need to do is survive the next such and such minutes.

It's a genre I love, so it would be great if there could be a film that's both epic/historical/informative enough AND exciting and adventurous to pique the public's taste for more of the same.

Will that be Dunkirk? I'll gladly watch and find out. :-)
