Who is the country equivalent to these performers?

Those who reached household name status and in no time were looked back at as bad remnants from a certain era and had their reputations age horrendously in no time.

Pop: Milli Vanilli. They sold several million copies of their album, and then came the lip synch confirming, and public backlash was beyond brutal. They had their Grammy rescinded and their album was deleted, making it the highest selling album to ever be taken out of print.

Rock: Limp Bizkit easily takes the cake here. They were all over MTV around the time of Woodstock 99, but five years later, you'd be hard pressed to meet people who would openly admit to ever having bought a Limp Bizkit album, even amongst people who love other contemporaries of theirs from that time period.

Rap: Vanilla Ice. That's a no brainer. Ice Ice Baby was a #1 hit, and he sold millions of his debut album. But in no time, he became the butt of many jokes, and his next studio album did not even enter the Top 200 albums.

Who is the country equivalent of the aforementioned artists?

reply

Billy Ray Cyrus. Apart from basically starting the line-dance craze, the guy had TWO songs, only one of which had any real story or feeling to it. And STORY is what real Country music is all about.

- Lord, have mercy on a country boy

reply

I don't know. What I do know is that Limp Bizkit, while not the most popular band in the world, is nowhere near the level of the other 2.

reply

I wouldn't go ad far as to say they're on the same level, either, but for bands that play rock, they're as close as you'll get.

How? Vanilla Ice was a 1-hit wonder and Milli Vanilli didn't really perform.

reply

Actually, Vanilla Ice did have a Top 10 hit with Play That Funky Music, but that was a cover, and he is exclusively remembered for Ice Ice Baby.

I thought it was hilarious on Jeopardy! when they had a Milli Vanilli clue: "They had 3 No. 1s, including "Blame It On The Rain"; too bad they never actually sang on any of them!" 

Mirinda Lambert to me is Milli Vanilli because I still think she's lip syncing.

Billy Ray Cyrus that was a good one. I would have never thought of him. As much as I love him I would definatly say he was the Vanilla Ice of Country music and in reality just the next Vanilla Ice all together.

Mmm Limp Bisquit? I don't think that made its way to country music. What was that singer who makes fun of country music? Claudis T Judd?
