2016-ish Rock/Metal Album Releases

Writing about classic music is all well and good. But we should not neglect recent releases by talented bands, both old and new.

I previously posted my favorite 2015 albums (http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000144/thread/246516504). In this thread I'll cover 2016 releases, as well as some other albums from this decade that I've purchased recently.

I look forward to your commentary and your contributions.

Right now, I'm hoping the new Metallica album really does get released this year.

My latest 2016-ish album purchase is by REVENGE (Columbia).

I like the following comment from the reviewer at the Lords of Metal ezine who wrote:

Think of a combination of the likes of Running Wild, Hallows Eve, Exciter, Rigor Mortis, Metallica, Anvil, Angel Witch, and many similar acts, and you’ll simply know that this is utterly METAL.

I've linked to a sample REVENGE song, and also their entire 2014 album, in the original post of this thread here: http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000144/thread/258219224

My latest album purchase, "Concussion Protocol", is from veteran metal band VICIOUS RUMORS, and was released on 08/26/2016.

I like the following comment from the reviewer at Metalholic.com who wrote:

Vicious Rumors have remained true to their sound across 12 studio albums and three-plus decades, delivering elite guitar shredding and high-octane, pure kick ass heavy metal. Concussion Protocol is a must have for any headbanger that enjoys in your face, neck-snapping, riff-driven metal.

My latest 2016 album purchase is "Walking in the Shadows" from Steve Grimmett's GRIM REAPER. GRIM REAPER is a band that formed in 1979, broke up in 1988, and then reformed with a different lineup in 2006. Vocalist Steve Grimmett is the only original member.

"Walking in the Shadows" is the first full length release by the new lineup, and first GRIM REAPER studio album in nearly 30 years.

I like the following comment from the reviewer at Dangerdog Music Reviews who wrote:

Fundamentally, it's everything you love about classic heavy metal. And you get alot of it with 12 songs at 50 minutes and no pussy ballads. Nope, just straight up heavy metal from gate.

Listened to the song. Very 80s metal.

And I'll take your word for it that there's no 'pussy' ballads in the album haha. Personally I don't mind a few ballads in an album (20-30% no more than that), this gives opportunities for these rockers to demonstrate their range and ability both with fast and slow songs, though not to the point of showing off and putting other bands downs as what Anthrax did with NFB.

Edit:
Oh and I agree with one of the comments. The singer reminds me of Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine during his mid-80s peak.

Grim Reaper's debut album did include a ballad called "The Show Must Go On". But that was 1983, in an era when metal bands could actually release a ballad and get radio airplay.

These days radio is fast approaching irrelevance for new metal music. Youtube is the greatest "radio station" on Earth as far as I'm concerned.

But that's not to say Grim Reaper's "Walking in the Shadows" album lacks variety. For example, they crank up the speed for "Temptation", and then slow it down for the following track "Thunder". And the whole album is very melodic, so no 'pussy' ballads are required. ξ€Ή

Plus, you just have to give the band kudos for coming back so strong from such a long absence, and including a track on the album called "Rock Will Never Die".
