Foyle's War [UK] About police work in England during World War II. Occasional humor, but mostly serious. Loved the cast and the mysteries.

Cracker [UK] A psychologist who consults with the police. Intense, but Robbie Coltrane as the psych provides flashes of [mostly sarcastic] humor.

Life [US] Cop released from years in prison after being falsely convicted of murder rejoins the force. A drama, but with a fair amount of humor. Although it's a US show, it stars a Brit, Damian Lewis.

A Nero Wolfe Mystery [US] Fine adaptations of various novels featuring the titular character. Fair amount of humor in the relationship between Wolfe [Maury Chaykin] and his assistant, Archie Goodwin [Timothy Hutton]. Interesting for its use of a sort of "repertory company" approach, with a stable of actors recycling through the series as different characters in different episodes.

Luther [UK] A damaged DCI investigates brutal killings. Not much humor, except in Luther's relationship with a recurring character, but Idris Elba's performance is impressive.

The Closer was one of the best shows on TV. Has the crime drama theme but a lot of banter between the characters. Lt. Louie Provenza, played by G. W. Bailey has me laughin all the time. I'm now watching re runs to catch what I might have missed the first time around.

The show was so good, as a matter of fact, they decided not to cancel it but to let it continue to run when Star, Kyra Sedgwick decided she needed a rest from it.

It ran from 2005 to 2012.

The new show is called Major Crimes. I've never seen this done on TV before. Perhaps they have but I missed it if they did.

The new show has all the same characters and the same story line. Just now, without Kyra Sedgwick.

I love the cast /characters on this show. I been watchin them for so long they feel like family (except for I like spendin time with them!)

White Collar on USA. Season 5 starts October 17th. It's a great, fairly light-hearted show with great characters.

I'd like to add another one I ran across more recently [by the bye, I've started watching New Tricks, and I really enjoy it!]. It's Death in Paradise. A London cop who is disliked by his colleagues is sent to a Caribbean island to "temporarily" take charge after the death of the previous inspector. Sounds great--but he hates sun, sand, sea and sky--not to mention French, which is the background of many of the island's inhabitants--and just wants to go back to London. Funny, good cast, interesting mysteries.
