IMO, the best holocaust films are The Shop on Main Street (Obchod na korze) and Louis Malle's Au revoir les enfants.

Both are very personal and very powerful. And very un-Hollywood.

If you want a very dark, very graphic Holocaust movie, watch The Grey Zone: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0252480/. It's thoroughly un-romanticized and appalling.
