Trying to find an old war movie - can anyone help?

Okay, this is doing my head in...

Years ago, I saw an old war movie and while several scenes from it have stayed with me, I can't remember the title. Is anyone able to tell me what it is based on the following?

- It was something to do with a siege during the late Medieval period, the majority of the action was with swords/lances and so on, but they used a few gunpowder weapons as well.

- The leader of the besieging army was betrayed by his son, who was in love with a girl inside the castle. After being captured, he opted to lead the villains army.

- Upon discovering the betrayal, the father confronted the son in the aftermath of a big ruck. Standing in a field surrounded by corpses, dad tearfully shot and killed his son.

- There was a scene where two horsemen dared each other to jump over a crevasse. Both managed it successfully, but then kept going until one slipped and fell to his death along with his horse.

- Perhaps the most memorable moment was when a heavily bearded old man stood in front of a cavalry charge and willingly let himself be trampled.

I also have a suspicion it may have been a badly dubbed foreign film, possibly Spanish but I'm not certain.

Does this ring any bells for you guys?
Thanks

Not sure about the other scenes you described, but this one sounds like Taras Bulba (1962). It's a memorable scene in the story. It's a Yugoslavian/US film with Yul Brynner. He's cool.
