Tremors

Is this a cult film, a horror film, a monster film, a comedy, or all of the above?

One of my all-time favorite films; I would define it as a monster film first, a cult film second, then a horror-com film. It's great as a monster flick, and it has many moments that can truly shock, if you're not so damned world-weary that you can't enjoy a few surprises from monsters.

And let me say this: you'd have to be more world-weary than I am, to be too jaded to enjoy this film. And if you're more world-weary than I am, you've probably already committed suicide, so why are we disputing?

I first saw this at the dollar house, when they still had that pre-production monster animated sign, jumping up and down and closing its jaws (I should have bought it!). My older sister had recommended it, so my friend and I went to see it, probly six months after it died at the box office.

Hah! FUN! Oh, my, it is/was fun! Such a fantastic cast, who appeared to be truly enjoying the film. At the time (i.e. before the stupid sequels) a great monster movie that never bothered to explain the monsters, which is one of my favorite characteristics of a great monster movie. Val & Earl are a monster movie buddy 'couple' that I don't think has ever been equalled. Their very first scenes, when they're arguing about who made breakfast yesterday, are nothing short of classic.

I can't say enough in favor of this masterpiece, except for this:

"No. It was eggs. I made eggs. Over easy."

"The HELL you did! Baloney and beans! It's YOUR TURN!"

I recommend that you take the opportunity to enjoy this film.

And the Jeep Warrior truck.

- What are you gonna do, when the world catches on?

I think a monster flick with comedy sprinkled in.
