Looking for a movie from the 80s/90s

I have been searching for a movie for a long time, I always thought the title was the Animal or the Beast. But I cant find anything by this name. It is about a family with a very abusive father. The mother always tries to protect the children but gets beaten for it. In the end the family falls apart because the eldest daughter commits suicide by hanging herself in the backyard. It made a great impact on me and I really want to see it again. Thoughts?
