Joe Pesci getting his head lit on fire in Home Alone 2

I have always wondered how they filmed this scene, since there was presumably no digital effects involved. I know that for the first film, they shot a wig stand getting torched and that was done just off camera with a mirror inside the camera so the reflection would show in the footage of Pesci himself, making it look like he was getting his crowned burnt. But the scene linked above from the second film clearly involved more complex shot set ups. Anyone have any thoughts?
