Gaps in Programming

Can anybody explain why the majority of shows that I watch all have a three or even four week gap mid-season? I get maybe a missed week for Easter, but why is every show I watch off the air at the same time?

It's so frustrating when the gap is so long that I lose track of 'previously
on *****'

If you're looking for bad advice, you've come to the right place.

Because the network only ordered 22-24 episodes and run Fall (Sept/Oct) to Spring (Apr/May/June). Count the weeks and see how it would be impossible to show 22 episodes over that many weeks.

"Not only does that thing exist, but now you have deprived everyone of cake!"

That's true, too - but even shows in rerun syndication sometimes get those programming gaps - even when running through the series without regard to seasons.

Oh well, maybe there wasn't much good on even when networks and programming was supposedly good, right?

i would rather that they ran consecutively and then twice... instead of having repeats in between as that really messes up with storyline
