Hi everyone, I'd appreciate recommendations on some good indie horror films.

I'm quite acquainted with Spanish horror - I've liked very much:

- Los Otros / The Others (Alejandro Amenábar, 2001)

- El Epinazo del Diablo / The Devil’s Backbone (Guillermo del Toro, 2001)

- El Laberinto del Fauno / Pan’s Labyrinth (Guillermo del Toro, 2006)

- La Piel que Habito / The Skin I Live In (Pedro Almodóvar, 2011)

Recently I've watched a couple of brilliant ones from Iran:

- A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night / دختری در شب تنها به خانه می‌رود‎‎ Dokhtari dar šab tanhâ be xâne miravad (Ana Lily Amirpour, 2014)

- Under the Shadow / زیر سایه‎‎ Zir-e Sayeh (Babak Anvari, 2016)

Any great independent films in the horror genre you might care to suggest?

I know, and the gore is done superbly.

Only saw Tale of Two Sisters from your much-appreciated list. Very good.

I've seen Spike Lee's Oldboy, liked it well enough but I'm partial to Mr Lee, one of my favorite directors... will check the Vengeance Trilogy. Wonder how I'll feel about it afterwards.

I remember seeing The Vanishing / Spoorloos (George Sluizer, 1988) then years later the remake - poor Jeff Bridges, what a flop! but even Tom Cruise couldn't spoil Vanilla Sky's remake, I liked it all right. But I've watched it before the original, so maybe that's the trick ;-)

Think I'll start with Spider Forest... Thank you so much godewey!

Watched Spider Forest and Ringu - good, specially Spider Forest. found Audition but will wait for the right frame of mind, whatever that is.

Also found both Three... Extremes, watching the older one now. Right side of bizarre, so refreshing! I was in need of an american-movie detox hehe.

Rec (2007) was a good Spanish one.

The Orphanage also.

funny! watched Rec (2007) some years ago, it was such a great surprise.... And, just last night, watched all the other Recs, have you seen them?

I forgot to mention the super creepy The Devil's Backbone (Guillermo del Toro, 2001) - will check The Orphanage, didn't realize it was Spanish, produced by Guillermo del Toro.

Goodnight Mommy (Ich seh ich seh, 2014)
Dead Snow (Død snø, 2009) It also has a sequel, but I haven't seen it yet.
The Loved Ones (2009) Not sure if it's indie, but it's Australian :D
Spring (2014)
Go Goa Gone (2013) This one's more of a horror comedy, but great fun.

Since you familiar with Spanish horror maybe you've seen these, but I'll throw them out there.
Thesis (Tesis, 1996)
Sleep Tight (Mientras duermes, 2011)

I've seen a few of those titles and I'll surely to check out the others. Big fan of independent Australian films since Proof (Jocelyn Moorhouse, 1991). Horror comedy suggestions are very welcome, too :-)

Watched Mientras Duermes, but not Tesis.

Proof looks interesting, I'll check it out some time.

I'm not as familiar with Australian horror, but a few others that come to mind are:
Wolf Creek (2005) Though I saw just the beginning of that, been meening to finish it for a while
The Babadook (2014)
Wyrmwood (2014)
Primal (2010) I didn't think it was that good, though.

And the Kiwis have done some horror comedies I've enjoyed in recent years.

Black Sheep (2006)
What We Do in the Shadows (2014)
Deathgasm (2015)
Housebound (2014)

Oh, and I remembered Let the Right One In (Låt den rätte komma in, 2008)

If I think of any others, I'll make sure to add them :)

Hey, van. I don't know if you're still around, but I thought I'd give you a couple more recommendations :)

I recently saw Der Nachtmahr (The Nightmare, 2015) and Grave (Raw, 2016) and I thought they were excellent.

P.S.: I saw A Dark Song, and I liked it. Very interesting.

I finally found this place! Sorry I'm so late to the party. I'm so glad someone mentioned Three...Extremes and the second one as well.

If you like dark and strange, try Buddy Boy.
Absentia was a very good low budget indie. Not the best acting, but I really enjoyed it.
Pulse (Japanese) and Shutter (Thai) were great and I don't think they have been mentioned.

And I stumbled up a Rifftrax version of The Last Slumber Party. OMG, what an awful movie, but so awful it was AMAZING.

Brilliant list daniellediamond! and I was just thinking of this thread yesterday, after trying to watch Crow (2016) [unwatchful!] and then got moderate satisfaction from It Comes at Night (2017). Thank you so much - lots to chose from there. :-)
