Was it time? (Eastenders)

Was it time for Michael to die? Personally I think it was, it's sad to see his character go as I think Steve John Shepherd is the best actor on the set and had the most interesting character but before Michael got stale he went out on a very disturbing and gruesome last scene which I think will help cement him in viewers' minds for years to come!
