Three very memorable teen flicks of the 90s are based on old stories

I bet many of you didn't know that three of the most mentioned and beloved teen flicks of the 90s are based on old novels and two of Them have the two film versions.

Cruel Intentions was based on The very old french novel " les Dangerouses Liaisons" by Chordelos Laclos
There are two classic version which are Period pieces, if you'd like to check them out one day

Clueless is based in Jane Austin's novel "Emma"
With again two other movies done in the classic way.
One with Gywneth Paltrow and another made for tv with Kate Beckinsale

Yep, I think many of us do.

They're all clever adaptations of the classic stories, made for modern viewing.

And there actually is a 'classic' version of Taming Of The Shrew - it stars Elizabeth Taylor and it's from 1967.

Agree and it's great that these fantastic stories exist in modern versions for people who doesn't like period dramas.
I find it crazy but understandable at the same that someone doesn't like this genre(period pieces).

Woww thanks I didn't know that, I think now there is time for another adaptation but making it as period piece again.

It's funny how the only story by Shakespere which has a lot of adaptations is Romeo and juliet.
Film makers make this look like Romeo and Juliet is the only good novel Shakespere wrote.

Hamlet, Othello (both of which have modern adaptations), King Lear and A Midsummer Night's Dream have all been adapted several times (and that's just off the top of my head).

^ Yup, Othello was adapted into ''O'' starring Mekhi Phifer, Julia Stiles and Josh Hartnett (oh god, the casts from the 90's ruled).
