Minor annoyances with my dvd-r

I have a Pioneer LX-61 dvd-r which is connected to my tv with a scart-cable to the Ext. 1 screen and with a HDMI-cable to the HDMI screen.

Obviously the HDMI output has better video- and audio-quality but when I go to the HDMI screen on my tv and press play to watch a dvd or something from my HDD, it automatically changes channels to Ext.1 and I have to manually change channels again to go to back to HDMI.

I can resolve the issue by removing the scart cable, but then I can only watch tv if my dvd-r is on.

It also has the annoying habit of switching back to Ext. 1 whenever a timed recording has stopped. I could be playing a game on the xbox, being in the middle of the final boss-fight, but when the timed recording stops, boom, we switch to ext. 1.

Any help with both these issues would be appreciated.

I'm confused why you need the SCART cable connected in order to watch TV. Does the Pioneer have a DVB-T tuner and your TV does not? How about just getting another DVB-T tuner for the TV?

Are there any settings in the TV that might stop it automatically changing inputs? Perhaps there's a service menu that could be used to customize it.
