Issue with my DVD player

A few months ago I popped a DVD into the player in my bedroom and heard a loud buzzing coming from the TV speakers before the menu came up. When the movie started playing, however, it stopped. I didn't think anything of it (we don't use that TV much), figuring the disc may have been to blame. The other day I tried another disc, though, and the buzzing continued into the film. Thinking the TV might be the issue I hooked the player to another TV and had the same issue with a third disc (although the buzzing let up after the movie started). While it is an older machine (I got it around 2006) it has been kept in good condition and has no other issues. Anyone know what could be up with it?

Could be a grounding issue with the audio cables. Try replacing those and see what happens.

^-- That.

Might also be a faulty solder joint in the audio connections inside the player. It does happen. If it's that lead-free crap (does the machine have the telltale "ROHS" or a "Pb" in a "no" sign printed on it somewhere?) then I wouldn't put it past it.

I also wouldn't dismiss the probability of an electrolytic cap somewhere in the player's audio output preamp that's going/gone bad. If it's from 2006, that was I.I.R.C. around the time capacitor plague was really coming to a head. (Look it up in Wiki.) Just because a piece of equipment is in good condition externally doesn't mean there's not something going horribly wrong on the inside.
