Romania vs. Bulgaria: where would you rather live for a year?

Which one?

Why the one you chose?

I'd love to visit the region, in general. But, I've never contemplated living in either country. So specific a decision would require (for me) a great deal of study, and contrasting. It's not something to be answered, as an essay question, on a message board.

I would think that a year (for the 4 seasons), in the Carpathian mountains would be a stunning visual, and environmental experience. But, there are urban, coastal and agricultural areas, as well.

Bulgaria abuts Turkey, so the current political climate might be a factor. Again, that would have to be subject to thought ... and, maybe the reading of tea leaves.

It's an interesting question. Are you thinking of making such a move? You must have a reason - probably a good one. I'm curious to know what it is.

Yes. It's why I'm asking. I'm narrowing options down.

In what capacity would you be going? Student, writer, photographer, adventure? Something else?

After viewing some YouTube videos, I think I'd likely opt for Romania. That may be, in part, to the romance of the literary lure. But, your purpose for going would be a major factor. Check out those videos.

I would also look into what laws may govern "ex-pats," even temporary ones, in each country. There's one video of a young girl explaining why she chose to live in Bulgaria (I think she was from the UK). I'll see if I can find it.
