I love hogarth and I personally find dark things funny. But I'd not say everyone would agree ;)
shareThey're extremely dark in nature, I'd call them dark humor actually. My favourite is the etching of the mother so drunk on gin she's not paying attention to her baby and it's about to fall down the stairs.
I think dark entertainment was very popular. You had the penny dreadfuls and a hanging would be a fun day out.
He really got the underbelly of society, goya was another artist who did this well.
If only it were as easy to curate in real life 😉
