I am thinking Spider-Boy will top the summer 2017 box office.

The trailer tonight should seal the deal.

I have my doubts. Its going to be the sixth Spider-Man movie since 2002, the third origin reboot.

I have no doubts it will do well, but biggest of the summer, I have reservations

Wonder Woman 4 weeks before
The Mummy & World War Z 2, 3 weeks before
Cars 3, 3 weeks before
Transformers The Last Knight 2 weeks before
Despicable Me 3 1 week before
War for the Planet of the Apes 1 week after
Dunkirk 2 weeks after

As well as the big carry overs from May like Pirates, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Baywatch, King Arthur......and the potential to be either awesome or horrifically bad, Alien:Covenant.

Good points, but I never ever doubt Marvel Studios ability so I'm sticking to my prediction. Oh and I highly doubt we'll see World War Z 2 next summer considering its not being filmed.

None of the films opening before Spider-Man will significantly impact its box office potential. The reverse would be more true, Spider-Man will swift kick to the knees to all of them.

Only movie you name that matters is Dunkirk, but 2 weeks is plenty of time for Spider-Man. Most movies make 70-75% of their final gross in the first two weeks. By the time Dunkirk opens, Spider-Man will be down to a sub-$40m weekend, with or without competition.

I disagree, I think Despicable Me 3 could offer some serious competition, especially considering the second one grossed $368.0 million in North America and over $970 million worldwide.

And even though Spider-Man: Homecoming is done by Marvel, and the character was well-received by fans and non-fans in Captain America: Civil War, I question how many casual fans will go and see yet ANOTHER Spider-Man film. Yes, he is a popular superhero but the film industry can only recycle one character so many times that the only mega-fans will pay their money to go and see it.

It will probably be #3 movie of the Summer in the US, behind GOTG2 and Despicable Me 3, and #5 globally, behind GOTG2, Despicable Me 3, Transformers 5 and Pirates 5.

I think Marvel Studios will deliver on their critic/crowd pleasing formula and Sony will be more than happy to throw a lot of marketing dollars at the film. It being in the MCU continuity will be a huge help.

It is worth noting that since the first Spider-Man in 2002, EVERY Spider-Man movie since has grossed less in North America since the last one. There are a few contributing factors there, it isn't ALL just an indicator of fatigue and nothing else.

An easy $300-$400M domestic total is not simply 'in the bag' here.

Domestic or worldwide ?

What is the competition, only those has a shot ?:

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Wonder Woman
The Mummy
Cars 3
Transformer
Despicable Me 3
War for the Planet of the Apes
Dunkirk
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
Untitled Disney live-action fairy tale

It is certainly a solid contender to do 800 million and that could be enough to take the crown.

Should do more than Dunkirk, Mummy, Wonder Woman, Untitled Disney live-action fairy tale
, some other are less obvious like Pirate, Despicable, Transformer, Apes, solid franchise.

Really not easy to predict, for me. seem like 5 possible winner.

I do think marvel will top the summer 2017 box office. Just maybe not with that film. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 should do a minimum of one billion.

Spiderman could do 900 million worldwide though and may have to settle behind despicable me 3 and be third.
