How big are the chances of Suicide Squad reaching 300 million domestic?

Right now, Suicide Squad trails BvS by 30 million. Its decline over the first 3 days was steeper than BvS's, so that could spell trouble. BvS ended up doing 330 million. So if Suicide Squad continues on the path it is right now, there is a chance it will end its domestic run just below 300 million.

actually hasnt the decline been the opposite? BVS went from 166 million to 35 after 3 days. SS went from 133 to 37 million . so its actually doing better than BVS in the dailies so far.

if if it drops to 50 million its still sitting at 230-240 but it may hit 60 million? and no real new competition for weeks.

Even when accounting for not-great weekend holds (I'm assuming -65% drop 2nd weekend, then drops in the range of 50% for subsequent weekends), I still have Suicide Squad pegged for at least $315mil domestic. It has the benefit of strong weekday numbers that BvS couldn't have in March and April. I'm thinking Labor Day weekend will bring it past the $300mil mark.

There's a very strong chance it won't get $300m.

In fact I think it ends up $285-290m, being slightly generous

If the predicted weekend drop of almost 70% actually happens, I tend to agree. Although the film has the advantage of stronger weekdays, because there's no school and kids go watch it in the afternoons.

Well, it dropped to 43 million; the gap to how much BvS had done after the same number of days in release has now even increased to 38 million. The only thing that could push Suicide Squad to 300 million would be very strong weekdays in the weeks ahead - otherwise I now highly doubt it will make it to that number.

I see a lot of folks throwing the $290-$295m figure around. Is it possible Warner Bros will let it linger in dollar theatres and the like just so it can hit the $300m milestone? I'm pretty sure Sony did that to get Spectre over $200m, but I may be misremembering.

It's certainly possible, since there's no way WB aren't feeling the heat at this stage (although it's a sign of the times that they are 'feeling the heat' after three films that will have cleared $500 million). It's a question of credibility, however. Whilst there was certainly some fudging to get Spectre to the $200 million number, I don't think it would wash at all with a film so frontloaded, especially when the gap between it and BvS is widening.

Yeah, they did, and WB did the same thing with the first Hobbit movie in order to get to that magical 300 million mark and with Godzilla to have it reach 200 million.
