Disney reportedly unhappy with how Rogue One turned out

Extensive expensive reshoots are imminent. Now we know why Gareth Edwards needs a break from big budget films.

This could very well lead to movies like Passengers and Assassins Creed over-performing.

Or, knowing Disney's obsessive micromanagement and market research, it could just mean that Edwards turned in an original film that doesn't just redress people's favourite bits from the old one.

The New York Post, and other clickbait sites have spun the story into the film being an ineptly made disaster to get more traffic, but Disney have admitted they're doing reshoots:

“The filmmaking team and the studio always anticipated additional shooting and second unit work to make the film the absolute best it can be, and the actors were aware there would be additional shooting. Coming off The Force Awakens, there’s an incredibly high bar for this movie and we have a responsibility to the franchise and to the fans to deliver the best possible movie we can.”

Four weeks is fairly substantial, but it's a long way from scrapping the film and starting over from scratch like the three months of reshoots on Green Zone (or Universal's other double the budget trying to fix the film mishaps like The Wolfman during that era). It sounds more like what happened with John Williams on the last film, when he basically spent a year rewriting his score and racked up the largest number of recording sessions ever for a film score because the suits wanted his score to sound more like the original trilogy and micromanaged every note. Since Disney approved the script and I can't see them dropping their gaze long enough for Edwards to go off it, it does seem more likely to be in a similar vein - a bit like forcing a kid to write the same thing out 100 times after school until they're satisfied.
