James Caan real age

James Caan's biography mentioned the question of whether he was born in 1940 or 1939. Since the Caan family were neighbors of ours when I was a kid, on 41st Street, Sunnyside, New York, I was very aware that he was a year older than I; I was born in 1940.

Kids are very aware of age difference, as they are separated by grade in school that way and tend to have a group of friends who are also of the same age.

Caan's mother, Sophie, used to chat with my mother when they were both watching their kids at play street and sidewalk games that city kids knew in those days. At one time, my mother couldn't locate certain pants for me to wear and Sophie put us in contact with the tailor who made pants for "Jamesie," as his mother used to call him. From that, and the very nice apartment the Caans had, I got the impression that money was no problem for them.
