The Eagle Has Landed

Did anyone read the book? My pop took me to see the movie and I saw it on television a couple of times after that. I remember Molly reading the letter that Liam wrote for her and the beached E-boat is shown, and nothing about whatever happened to Hans and the E-boat crew. Were they captured? Seems like if the E-boat's part in the scheme was unknown the Allies would not even be looking for them, and all they would have to do is wait several hours for the tide to come back in.

na, never read the book...all I remember of the E-boat crew is them tossing him through the pub window on channel Is or wherever that was..

reply

It was one of the Channel Islands.....Jersey I think....but it was Colonel Steiner's paratroopers and not the E-boat crew who tossed Liam Devlin out of the pub window. From the way he was dressed they thought he was a Gestapo man.

Read the book back in the 70's but do not actually recall if the film is diff from the book. Time to root around and see if I can find a used one cheap. Thanks for the reminder.

You're welcome. I may have the book around here somewhere. Bought it and never read it, although I remember a radio interview in which Jack Higgins said he was pleased with the film but sad that so much of the book had to be cut out of it.

oh, yeah, you are right, actually, it was his first meeting with Steiner's men...they tipped his beer over his arm on the counter...he demanded one of them suck the beer on his thumb...next you know, he was head-first through the window..

Earlier we saw the E-boat returning from a patrol with KIA lying on it's deck..

I think Higgns wrote another war one called 'Cold Harbor" maybe?

I had it, but never got around to reading it..was it ever made into a movie?

reply

Yes, you're right. He wrote a bunch of WWII books. No movie as far as I know.
