I am going to delete my account with IMDb when they close the Boards

after nearly 17 years.

It's been suggested that the real reason why IMDb is closing it's boards is because they can't be monetized. That's a fair assessment but without a forum, what is the point of being a registered user? If IMDb cares about their site's health, there's one other thing you can do to capture their attention: show them how much you care about the message boards by deleting your account since there isn't much of a point of having one after February 19.

F@ CK them.

By googling a film I will still be able to read what I need to know, and if I can't discuss it with other users...then F @CK them

A post without an OMG is a post incomplete.

As I mentioned on that other board, Goz, I'm gonna' stick around. I like to contribute memorable quotes (and sometimes goofs and other trivia, if it would help) to the various movie and TV pages. You have to be logged in as a registered member to do that.

In spite of the Boards going away, which I consider a big loss, I would still encourage registered IMDb members to continue participating in making contributions and continuing with rating movies and TV shows and the like. I realize the Boards have largely been a big benefit to us all, but the contributions that members can still make to trivia/memorable quotes/FAQs/filming locations/soundtrack listings etc. are and should continue to be a big benefit, too.

So, if you're able to contribute in those areas, I urge you to stick around.

Don't mess with me, man! I know karate, judo, ju-jitsu... and several other Japanese words.

Ill still use it for who was in what and whatever else. I guess I have you to thank for some of it, the contributions you've made.

I will still look up movie information, but I rarely used the other features. I will print off my list of seen movies- it is rather long and interesting.

will the entire message board be deleted do you think? or it'll be up but locked?

reply

I'll stay registered. I was using the IMDb listings for information, before I became a regular message board user. The information on various films, shows, performers and other entertainment fields is beautifully cross-referenced. And, the "clickability" (I knew spell check wouldn't like that), makes it so easy that even I can use it. ξ€Ή

That brings another question to mind. Years ago, I contributed some "goofs," to that that category, on several films. Those are kind of silly -- but, fun. I wonder if we will be able to contribute those bits of information, after the shutdown.

Random thought: I've never used an avatar, and IMDb has nagged me about it for a few years. They're STILL on my case about it. Why, now? 

I think they might change their minds in the near future when they see what actually happens without the boards.

Or even change their minds in a few days, before the date.
