I want to switch to instant coffee...

Any recommendations? Every time I make coffee it tastes like crap. I have used different type of machines, French press type devices, and those high end coffee machines are not always the best either in my opinion. I just like coffee shop coffee. But, I usually drink tea all day. It's impossible to screw up.

Now I'm due for a change and will consider trying some instant coffee beverage. Any recommendations? And nothing like Sanka or super generic stuff.

After trying several brands, WKD and I settled on Maxwell House original roast instant coffee. (hated Sanka and Folgers) We only drink instant coffee now because we each only have one cup in the morning, I just use a hotpot I bought at Walgreens to boil the water, it boils in 3 minutes. Always make sure the water is boiling hot, I put the coffee in the bottom of the cup and then add the water.

I concur. Maxwell House instant is pretty good.

Although Taster's Choice INDIVIDUAL PACKETS were surprisingly good too!

I use either Maxwell House or Folger's. I use decaf and buy it just from a regular grocery store. We don't drink coffee regularly but I keep it on hand for guests and for some treats of which it is an ingredient. The instant seems to remain fresher longer and it's easier just to make a little at a time if an entire pot isn't needed.

I recently read an article that mentioned testing decaf instant coffees and found some caffeine, various amounts, in all tested except for Folger decaf instant. I keep that one in the home.

Maxwell House or Taster's Choice.

Technically, ALL decaf coffees have some caffeine...because its said to be literally IMPOSSIBLE to remove all caffeine from them.

Folgers decaf likely has such a small amount of caffeine that it does not 'register' on any testing sources.

I thought the same thing as you. That's why I mentioned that article and their findings. It's their thing.
I'm happy that Folger's is the least. It could add up if several cups were had in a day. The jar is more than a year old and still here. Coffee connoisseurs may be upset and say it could loose it's freshness but it still does the job for a quick at home cup whenever.

Mount Hagen -organic-- very good, both regular and decaf.
