Are the sheep aware?

When they attempt to dismiss criticism by calling smarter people "racist" or "fascist" or "nazi," do they know they're committing a logical fallacy, or are they just so dumb all they know is name calling? I really can't tell if this is all an act. As a former leftist, I always thought we were intelligent, but the left today is dumber than shit in a shoebox. What's happened?
