This is what Republican presidents aim for when they are in office

From a Bloomberg Business article:

"The U.S. started collecting estate taxes in 1916, levying a 10% rate on fortunes of $5 million (roughly $125 million today) or more. The top rate steadily rose, to 77%, where it remained until the late 1970s. Then rates began to fall, and at the turn of the 21st century critics of the estate tax and the related gift tax started to score some major wins. During the George W. Bush administration, Republicans successfully whittled away at the levy by cutting the top rate and lifting the lifetime exemption for the taxes—the total amount anyone can leave to heirs tax-free. President Donald Trump doubled the exemption for eight years starting in 2018, so for the moment only married couples leaving $23 million or more to their heirs need to worry about estate and gift taxes at all. Last year the taxes brought in only $17.6 billion, out of $3.4 trillion in federal revenue, according to the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Their decline is one of many factors that have contributed to a dramatic increase in wealth at the top, helping make the 20 richest Americans, including (Phil) Knight, worth a combined $1.9 trillion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index."

This is what we get from Republican leadership. Rich people helping rich people, no pretense in trying to help the average American have a sustainable existence.

Make your own money and stop stealing from others, leach!

reply

Stop stealing the resources of the country without paying for them, and stop using slaves in China to enslave Americans ... just another way to steal. That's a truly dishonest and despicable comment.

More DemoKKKrat lies, Republicans lower taxes for everyone who works, and when taxes are lowered on the wealthy then that means prices go down and more people are hired which helps the economy, improves the lives of everyone willing to work and increases revenue.

DemoKKKrats however say they are only raising taxes on the very wealthy but that's largely a lie because the wealthy don't pay for tax increases, instead to make up for the tax increases they lay people off and raise their prices so it ends up being the middle class who pays which coincidentally just happens to be the demographic that doesn't typically vote for the DemoKKKrat cult.

You need to be educated, your cult is clearly feeding you lies and misinformation.

What, I need to go to a Republican education camp? Our free press and investigative journalism shouldn't do it's job and should be eliminated in favor of Republican doctrine? That's exactly what the current problem is. Far-right factions want to re-educate the populace to hate everything society has been working toward. They want inequality in every level of life.
Rich deserve to be rich, poor deserve to be poor, no one can be different, serve the bosses. That's the Republican platform.

So much wrong with this post , it is the left who wants to indoctrinate people with their racist CRT doctrines. There is also no such thing as far right, there is far left and there is moderate. The thing is when your cult has indoctrinated you as badly as they have moderate seems far right. If someone obtained money legally who are you to say they don’t deserve to be rich? Republicans just want to give an equal chance to everyone and to give the American people more freedom. Your cult is a bunch of fascist dictators who want to screw over everybody so they can get wealthier and more powerful. You need help

reply

Yeah, because according to parasites like you, people shouldn't be allowed to keep what they earned (and ALREADY paid tax on).

reply

Duh.

Self righteous nonsense in the name of extortion. That's all it is. That money has already had the taxes paid on it. This is nothing but extortion to make losers like yourself feel better. You get to, "stick it to the man" because he has something you covet. I guarantee if the shoe was on the other foot, you'd want to be able to keep more of your inheritance too. Which makes you a hypocrite.

And republicans do lower taxes for all. You just believe the lies democrats tell you, because all they do is buy your vote with taxpayer money. I'm a lifelong conservative and I believe that EVERYONE should pay the same tax rate. That is what is fair.

The Stamp Tax of 1797

In 1797, the U.S. Congress chose a system of stamp
duties as a source of revenue in order to raise funds
for a Navy to defend the nation’s interests in response to an undeclared war with France that had begun in 1794. Federal stamps were required on wills
offered for probate, as well as on inventories and
letters of administration. Stamps also were required
on receipts and discharges from legacies and intestate
distributions of property.6 Taxes were levied as follows: 10 cents on the inventories of the effects of deceased persons, and 50 cents on the probate of wills
and letters of administration. The tax on the receipt
of legacies was levied on bequests larger than $50,
from which widows (but not widowers), children,
and grandchildren were exempt. Bequests between
$50 and $100 were taxed 25 cents; those between
$100 and $500 were taxed 50 cents; and an additional $1 was added for each subsequent $500 bequest.
In 1802, the crisis ended, and the tax was repealed.

Taxation of property transfers at death can be traced back to ancient Egypt as early as 700 B.C.
Nearly 2,000 years ago, Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus imposed the Vicesina Hereditatium, a tax on successions and legacies to all but close relatives
