I think Congress's subpoena powers are damn near absolute.
I'm a nobody, but I wonder if for some reason some congressional committee subpoenaed me, I wonder if they would pay for my travel, accommodations, lost wages, etc. (I don't know, some investigation into faulty car airbags or whatever...)
I don't know how Bannon fights this. Did he ever have a position in the Executive Branch? Was he there in January 2021? I think he can be compelled to testify if he wasn't in the White House.
And unless I'm mistaken, I don't think it's something where he goes to "prison." I think he just sits in some cell until he says "OK I'll talk now." (Which is still "jail.")
Congress isn't a judical branch thank goodness.

This just reinforces my position that we need to model our education system after places like Germany and Japan. Most people there don't get free K-12 classroom instruction. They start weeding out the morons at a certain age.
