Ross dated a black woman and Asian woman, but that's not my point.
Hilarious she says that and her worked in Living Single and The Jamie Foxx Show - two almost if not totally exclusively black shows - is mentioned. *facepalm* Shows like Girlfriends and Martin say hi too. I can't with this fake outrage/hypocrisy with race anymore. I have no tolerance for it.
I don't think Shepard is racist at all. She's a pretty harmless person. A hypocrite, sure. Racist, no. MANY shows that era and older had almost entirely black casts, some of which she was a part of.
The problem isn't the friends themselves who were all white. The problem was repeatedly showing a TOTALLY WHITE ENVIRONMENT in NYC. Places where they visited and people they interacted with were all white which makes zero sense in NYC which is overwhelmingly POC. The soap opera Capital had the same issue. An all white cast in DC!!!! Really? Have you been to DC?
The two POC they dated amount to tokenism.
Now, I'm going to defend Seinfeld!!!!!
Again, all the friends were white. I have zero problem with that.
Unlike "Friends", "Seinfeld" showed a realistically diverse environment for NYC. African-Americans, West Indians, Africans, Pakistanis, Chinese, Native-Americans, Greeks, Puerto-Ricans, Cubans, Japanese, Jews, etc.
They went further. They had people in wheelchairs, deaf, canes, seniors, cancer, gay, straight, homeless, overweight, underweight, etc.
I always praise Seinfeld for it's diversity, ultra-realism and quirky storytelling.
I never complained about Newhart which was all white because it took place in Vermont which is overwhelmingly white. Likewise, Girlfriends and Martin are irrelevant since we don't know WHERE they live.
BTW, I have complained about shows when none of the actors speak in the local dialect.
If Friends had taken place in Vermont or another white area, then there would be no issue!!!
