Fellow progressives: how can we stop another Fascist from coming to power again?

Not talking to you Fascists here; you know who you are.
Now how can we non-evil folks stop the evil folks from coming to power again? Actually the Fascist nightmare isn't over even though we're pretending it is. Like Camus said, the Plague never goes away...it goes dormant, but at some point will strike again.
I mean it's impossible to eradicate evil. Evil didn't die when Hitler did; it just took different forms. Now it's lying dormant in Florida (actually in NJ for the summer).
And autocratic leaders are still in power in Hungary, Russia, Brazil, and the Philippines to name just a few.

reply

Unfortunately, it will probably happen because the Republicans and their cheerleaders on Fox clearly like authoritarian personalities like that and the political system has enough holes in it to permit a smart fascist to grab power. How long it would last, I'm not sure.

reply

Imo, fascism can only rise when the other governing body isn't doing its job and favoring another set of folks or circumstances (policy or whatnot) over the other. There is a reason these things keep happening again and again throughout history. I think of it as a counter balance to when one side goes too far be it the left or right. Sadly though some have mastered it so well to remain in power until death. In the end though, what I see is each side calling each other fascists and dictators depending on their level and take of 'freedom'.

reply

You are the fascist

reply

yes he is

reply

The answer is obvious, Comrade Adam60ski! Glorious democracies like Cuba and N Korea figured it out 60 years ago.

reply

The main thing is to vote.
Get people out to vote.
What a bunch of lazy idiots who have not been voting and who don't even truly know how to vote.
Then, pass laws to make voting easier.
Then take money out of the campaign system.
The main problem is that evil forces have changed the laws to allow them to prosper and cut off voting and discussion.

reply

Voting should be mandatory but it'll never happen;they wouldn't even have to vote for Democrats or Republicans, third party candidates would suffice.

reply

FACT: Mandatory voting is the epitome of government tyranny. Prove me wrong.

reply

Voting suppression laws being passed now in most states are meant to prevent democrats from voting.

Government IDs commonly used by students and minorities are denied for voting. Street addresses needed on IDs instead of PO Boxes even though reservations don't use street addresses. Purges of the voting rolls targeted in democratic districts. Removal of election officials by the GOP allowed if they refuse to challenge a democrat's win. Fewer polling sites in democratic areas for hours long waits. Less access to mail-in ballots.

Democratic senator Manchin and others refuse to vote for legislation to remove big money and stop voter suppression. Meanwhile a sizeable percentage of Americans are willing to believe lies and support an autocracy. Very depressng.

reply

LMAO...NOT EVEN YOU COULD MAKE ALL THAT SEEM LIKE ANYTHING BUT BULLSHIT.

reply

You're upset that a record number of Americans voted!! That makes you and the GOP anti-American.

Voter suppression laws by the facist GOP:

YOU TYPE ENDLESS BULLSHIT...ALSO YOU ARE DENSE AS FUCK...I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH EITHER PARTY...I DID NOT NVOTE FOR EITHER PARTY...PERIOD...NOW...BACK TO TYPING YOUR BULLSHIT.

reply

Your denial of the obvious isn't credible.

reply

LMAO...OK JIMMY.

?

reply

OH...MY BAD...I THOUGHT WE WERE JUST RANDOMLY BLATHERING NOW...BASED ON YOUR COMMENTS.🙂

reply

Stop allowing Democrats from being in office would be the best way to keep fascism out of power. Seems pretty straight forward.

reply

This isn't as ridiculous as it first appears, but the truth is that Clinton raised taxes, and those were lower than Reagan's, and Obama raised taxes, and those were lower than Clinton's, and by all accounts Biden's taxes will be lower than Obama's.

And the virtuous cycle of wealth accretion up the food chain continues.

But let's talk about a black woman portraying Anne Boleyn...

reply

There was a fascist in power in the U.S.? Going to have to explain that one.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fascism
Fascism: fas·cism | \ ˈfa-ˌshi-zəm also ˈfa-ˌsi- \ a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.

I assume you're referring to Trump? He had his faults, and could legitimately be labeled a nationalist, but he wasn't nearly as fascist as the left leaning tech oligarchies that have been actively suppressing free speech lately, or the administration that tried to arrest or disappear the likes of Julian Assange or Edward Snowden. It's not people on the right who are cancelling anyone they disagree with at the drop of a hat, destroying careers, or burning down entire city blocks for months on end without consequence while people gathering for church were arrested even when practicing social distancing. Yes, Trump’s words were inspiration for the Jan 6 rioters as he echoed a growing sentiment of mistrust, despite him imploring with them to go home and be peaceful. But he’s not a fascist, by its very definition.

Conservativism exalts individualism and personal responsibility, regardless of race or creed, where individual freedom is more important than a group’s. That's the opposite of fascism. It's the left who lumps people into social and racial groups and tries to divide them by playing them off each other. It's the left that's brought racially-based cultural movements and policies back into play like critical race theory and identity politics, and who actively suppresses an entire segment of the population by trying to convince them they aren’t capable as individuals and require government assistance to succeed in life solely because they happen to be born with a darker tone of skin, while telling another group that they’re inherently racist because they happen to be born with a lighter skin tone.

Liberals used to stand for something meaningful, but in recent years have become more and more fascist in nature and don't even realize it. Many liberals have fallen into this trap of escalating confirmation bias. Fascists used to abhor liberalism, but liberalism has evolved into something very different, something that seeks to control the rest of the population through shaming, “cancel culture”, social control, etc., and many are falling right in lock step with this paradigm shift, oblivious to just how hate-filled they have become.

Having said all that, that’s just the current state of affairs. The same type of shift could just as easily happen on the right, and eventually probably will as the cultural pendulum swings the other way in a few decades or so, after a brief respite of sanity.

Informed, legitimate voting is imperative.

Paxton, author of several books, including "The Anatomy of Fascism" (Vintage, 2005), said fascism is based more on feelings than philosophical ideas. In his 1988 essay "The Five Stages of Fascism," he defined seven feelings that act as "mobilizing passions":

1. The primacy of the group. Supporting the group feels more important than maintaining either individual or universal rights.
2. Believing that one's group is a victim. This justifies any behavior against the group's enemies.
3. The belief that individualism and liberalism enable dangerous decadence and have a negative effect on the group.
4. A brotherhood for which "unity and purity are forged by common conviction, if possible, or by exclusionary violence if necessary."
5. Individual self-esteem is tied up in the grandeur of the group. Paxton called this an "enhanced sense of identity and belonging."
6. Extreme support of a "natural" leader, who is always male. This results in one man taking on the role of national savior.
7. "The beauty of violence and of will, when they are devoted to the group's success in a Darwinian struggle," Paxton wrote.

Six of the above seven criteria fit the current version of the left to a tee, indicating the left is no longer liberal.

Fascists, racists, homophobes, xenophobes, etc., etc., etc. They're all leftist false flags.

reply

What the hell, dude, you trying to channel me or something? Couldn't have said it better myself.

Although, I would argue that die-hard Trumpers hit on several of those seven feelings as well, which to me denotes a cultural feedback loop of opposing radical extremism that somehow needs to be curtailed (but I'd agree this phenomenon on the Right is much smaller and less pervasive in scope than the Left at this point, in part due to their more conservative, reserved natures).

Dave Rubin addressed quite well back in 2017 the evolution of the Left from Liberalism to something much more destructive:

You are aware the alt-left ceased reading your very thoughtful and intelligent post after reading the definition of Fascism. You have to understand when the truth is put before them they begin to wither akin to holding a cross before a vampire. Intelligent rational thought is a foreign concept to the alt-left.

”It's not people on the right who are cancelling anyone they disagree with at the drop of a hat, destroying careers, or burning down entire city blocks for months on end without consequence while people gathering for church were arrested even when practicing social distancing.”

I have been saying the above for months. In fact I refer to Antifa as the new “Brown Shirts”. Both Antifa and BLM are domestic terrorist groups. The alt-left on this board and elsewhere dismiss such talk. They shout Free Speech until the Speech disagrees with them.

It’s not the Right who suppresses speech…it’s the left who controls our government. As soon as Biden took office Pelosi stopped a procedure which has been used since the 1st Congress…the Motion To Recommit.

” The GOP never made a similar move when they controlled the majority, with Republican Rep. Tom Cole pointing out that “This is a right that has been guaranteed to the minority for well over a century. With today’s changes, the majority is seeking to silence views they are afraid of.”

The Biden administration stated it would also partner up with tech companies on “increased information sharing” to help stop radicalization. In other words, they’ll spy on you through what you search online.

Definitely vote, and not just every 4 years for President. Those down ballot candidates and Primaries are just as important and the main reason the GOP is able to gerrymander the fuck out of states. The legislature is already rigged in conservatives favor and they are very good at manipulating their base while doing fuck all for them, so our main weapon is to keep people informed and active.

I mean without the Erectoral Collage neither Tush nor Chump would have been able to destroy the country while enriching themselves. The true suckers are the poor uneducated who support them while they get screwed.

reply

Rural states - the source of most food and energy for the rest of the nation - will not countenance every future Presidential election being decided by a handful of counties / boroughs in L.A. and NYC. Presidents will be viewed as tyrants answerable only to the voters in those two massive population centers. And an election won so easily by catering exclusively to L.A. and NYC will likewise fraction the Democratic party as it will no longer be necessary to have a consensus platform accepted by all wings and regions of the party. Small and Southern Democrat states with political philosophies distinct from those two Democrat cities will likewise become restless and militant as they become irrelevant to the most powerful executive office on the globe. The risks from terminating the Electoral College make no sense considering strong Democrat candidates have zero problem winning the presidency under its current operation. If you are looking for a recipe to destroy the Union and the Democratic Party, ending the Electoral College is an efficient means to do so

reply

Didn't realize California was a rural state.

Also, all of that crap you posted is complete nonsense! Aside from the fact that LA and NYC combined probably account for about 5% of Democrat vote totals(your assuming they have much power than they do), the Electoral college completely suppresses the vote in non-battleground states. Giving additional electoral power to people that live in the sticks for no other reason than because they've spread themselves across a ton of undesirable locations is silly.

reply

Well you can start by impeaching Biden and Harris.
