The truth about Trumpism

Trump offers a safe space for human frailty and self doubt. He offers what no priest can credibly offer: a total expiation of shame. His personal shamelessness is a kind of spiritual balm.

Trump is not a religious Jesus.
Trump is "I can be fat" Jesus.
Trump is "grab them by the pussy" Jesus.
Trump is "I will eat nothing but cheeseburgers if I want to" Jesus.
Trump is "I will punch them in the face" Jesus.
Trump is "Go back to your shit hole country" Jesus.
Trump is "I don't have to wear a mask anywhere if I don't want to" Jesus.
Trump is "No apologies" Jesus.

Trump gave his supporters something no one else would: permission to be their worst selves. The left does the opposite. The left says you should be better. If you support Trump, it comes down to one single reason. You don't like being told to be better.

"Scott Adams described Trump as a master persuader, perhaps the best he has ever seen, but the problem for me is I find Trump to be among the least persuasive people I have ever come across. Whenever I see him speak, I see an obvious conman and ignoramus. In fact, Trump seems to be so unaware of how people like me judge a person's credibility that his efforts to appear credible, such as they are, always make him look ridiculous and even deranged. So the claim that he is a brilliant persuader makes about as much sense to me as the claim that he is the model of physical fitness would. In my world, the claim can be disproven at a glance."

I get annoyed at Sam Harris sometimes, but other times we can really nail it. That was one of those times.

Scott Adams on the other hand is a very creepy person ... the kind of guy I imagine has a real "inner Trump" that he gets some kind of creepy satisfaction out of worshipping. I find Scott Adams completely revolting.

Sam Harris is kinda like Fox News. He's a dummy when it pays the bills, but he's only willing to go so far.

Governments have been studying this subject ever since Hitler's popularity. 1/3 of a country's population has an authoritarian personality trait which is fearful, bigoted, antiscience, simpleminded, self-contradictory and antidemocratic. They are willing to vote in a dictator who promises to protect them from the fearful world.

Trump didn't have to persuade anyone. The base was always there and waiting for its leader. The problem is that the next autocrat leader won't make as many errors as Trump and we'll likely lose democracy unless the majority remain vigilant.

reply

Jair Bolsonaro handled the pandemic nearly as badly as Trump... and yet he is riding high in the polls in Brazil. Bolsonaro had the political savvy to send out stimulus checks EVERY MONTH to eligible voters, and has reaped a massive wave of popularity because of it so far. Instead of Bolsonaro being the "Poor Man's Trump", Trump turned out to be the "Poor Man's Bolsonaro, ".

reply

Populists tend to be popular. Hitler was popular, too.

America is a world power and leader that needs to be and do much better than the genocidal policy of an emerging economy country like Brazil.

reply

Everything said about Trump and his base, let's not forget he got the same percentage of the vote Romney did.

And another substance free lemming cut and paste.

You should learn to think for yourself. Free yourself from the misery of being a mental slave of Democrat party of hate.

Going by Scott Adams assessment and the superficial Democrat media/party/lemming example: Stephan Hawking would be an idiot. Oprah Winfield wouldn’t be worth 30 seconds of your time. George Hamilton would be king of the world.

People should read the OP. It’s so illustrative of how the left lacks any depth. Any intellectual analysis. Thanks for sharing.

“Orange man is bad because orange man bad and someone said orange man bad. I agree orange man bad because orange man is bad and I knew he was bad at first glance”.

Applause

No surprise these morons use hate night tv/snl as their primary tool of propaganda. God forbid someone actually think for themselves.

reply

Did you send him any money?

If not, you should!

reply

I've never seen anyone give a complete spot on description of himself before and it completely goes over your head.

Projection.

Textbook.

reply

They have nothing without Trump, and Biden isn't their leader.

They got played. Hard.

reply

Spot on mate, but youre being a bit kind on the numbers, love.

reply

It's partly true. Trumpers love to wallow in their ignorance and blame others for their mistakes. And judging by how fast QAnon took off, they're easily tricked.
