Native Tribal Leaders Want Mount Rushmore To Be Removed

The chairman of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is calling for the removal of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The tribe leader has argued that the monument is carved in an area that is considered sacred land to Natives. The site may have been iconic for many White Americans, but for Natives, it has been extremely controversial.

“Nothing stands as a greater reminder to the Great Sioux Nation of a country that cannot keep a promise of treaty then the faces carved into our sacred land on what the United States calls Mount Rushmore. The United States of America wishes for all of us to be citizens and a family of their republic yet when they get bored of looking at those faces we are left looking at our molesters,” Chairman Harold Frazier said in a statement.

Frazier is one of many Native American leaders who have spoken out against the monument, as it has been a point of contention for Native tribes since it was built.

Do you remember when the taliban were considered a bunch of savages for destroying the giant Buddhas in 2001?

Western countries are becoming something similar. Hail to Wokeness!

Reminds me of the Petra Treasury in Jordan where they filmed the Indiana Jones and The Last Crusades part with the grail.

I can't find the meme to your post where it showed that, some statue in Egypt or similar being cut, then had democrat as the last one.

It's not the only case.

In Spain you have the 'Valle de los Caidos' (Valley of the Fallen). It's a giant monument that can be seen from 40 km away (25 miles). It's history.

It was built during the dictatorship as an homage to the fallen in the Civil War. Last years, left (woke) parties have been asking to demolish it.

Well mountains are pretty big. Where do they want it removed to ?

reply

North Dakota.

Difficult. Would they take a few pallets of beer instead ?

1980 court decision ruled that Mount Rushmore is Lakota land.

The OP supports illegal trespassing and use of this territory by interlopers.

reply

Biden will give it back to them till China wants to put in a mining operation there.

reply

It's not Biden's to give back to them! It already belongs to the Lakota. By their grace, they allow that monument to remain.

"Under the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868, the United States pledged that the Great Sioux Reservation, including the Black Hills, would be "set apart for the absolute and undisturbed use and occupation" of the Sioux Nation (Sioux), and that no treaty for the cession of any part of the reservation would be valid as against the Sioux unless executed and signed by at least three-fourths of the adult male Sioux population. "

Trump was also illegally trespassing on their land for his antiAmerican rally!

reply

Tell that to China when they publicaly come out and say they own the US.

reply

Deflection!

Trump was trespassing! The monument is on Lakota territory!

Show respect to the Lakota instead of your entitled arrogance.

reply

Hong Kong should say that to China.

reply

Wait, where did I say I support illegal trespassing and use of territory by interlopers? All I said was the responses on that twitter post were of those people as described.

I find it amusing how a court decision ruled that land in favor of Lakota. It was the Cheyenne's and several other tribes land before the Lakota came in and slaughtered them for it.

reply

Don't be so paternalistic! You have a condescending attitude toward the Lakota. It's not your place to decide nor give permission re: their land.

Do you have anything better to do this July 4th weekend besides attack the Lakota and fellow Americans who support them in their struggle for justice?

reply

Justice!!! You're the one who conveniently forgets how native tribes stole each others land over thousands of years.

reply

You mean this big chunk of land the size of Montana? No wonder people don't respect activist courts!

Turkey needs to give Constantinople back to the Christians.

reply

That tribe needs to vote their chieftain out. They need to take the money and move on. The Supreme Court ruled that the US owed them compensation for the land that was stripped from the tribe. There is over a billion dollars in a trust fund for the tribe but they won't take the money. They could use that money to improve their community.

Who cares?

It's the property of the citizens of the USA.

reply

I can understand why Native Americans would want Mt. Rushmore to be removed, but it is part of the country's history. So.......let it stay.

reply

It's going nowhere nor should it. It's an important part of American history which unlike Confederate monuments demonstrates the capacity for greatness in spite of their personal flaws. If Trump was smarter about placating them, he should had commissioned the construction of a similar monument for Native American history. Or gave them more aid for COVID.
