Could Trump kill moviechat?

In his recent spat with Twitter, the President has issued a executive order to recend 230 protections for internet sites.

230 protects internet sites (like this one) from liability of it's users posts. Without these protections Moviechat could be held liable for what it's users post.

There will be legal challenges to this order, and it is unclear how 230 would be changed, but free speech sites that let a user to say or accuse anything about anybody (for the most part, if kept civil) could be in jeopardy.

moviechat.org is already liable,
it's just that no one outside of this movie nerd realm cares about the opinions expressed here

Not quite.

230 protects them from slander lawsuits.

If you posted something slanderous about say... Billy Crystal, Mr Crystal's lawyers would sue Moviechat.org for not fact checking it and allowing others to read it. (Just like any newspaper or cable news show)

You couldn't say in the NYT or on Fox News that Billy Crystal is really a big baboon that has sex with a giraffe...but you can have fun like that on the internet.

It wouldn't be just celebrities either, also companies, brands or any privately held institutions.

The cost of fact checking everything would be prohibitive, the site would pay a guy to fact check the absurd Billy Crystal post.

Is Billy Crystal a baboon? No

Does Billy Crystal have sex with a giraffe?

Inconsequential, the first part of the sentence is false and the post must be deleted.

This cost $$$ and would cause the site to close it's doors.

Like with everything else, Trumpers will applaud this move because the hypocrites are perfectly OK with the suppression of free speech just so long as it's the suppression of Anti-Trump free speech.

I've said it before and I'll say it again--if Trump declared himself dictator, all these nutcases around here would full-on 110% defend it just the same as I KNOW they will defend it if Trump tries to throw the election, call it "fake" and refuse to relinquish power. Absolutely NOTHING about their words and behavior proves otherwise.
