Agreed man. I don't know what it will take to get the Dems to embrace progressivism. I mention the Dems because unfortunately there are only 2 major parties in this county, we need them. Maybe Trump winning another 4 years? Probably only wishful thinking.

Actually it's Democrats who demonstrably want a stupid, easily manipulated population. It's also in their strategic interest to keep as many people poor and dependent on government as possible.

Absentee ballots should be reserved for the military, those with some other career reason rendering physical voting impractical, or the elderly or infirm who can't reasonably make it to the polls. When limited like that they're basically such a small percentage of ballots that they don't swing the outcome, though even that small percentage does sometimes come into play as we saw in 2000 and some other close elections.

Letting most or all people vote that way is a problem because it eliminates the secret ballot and the chain of custody for the votes.

It's impossible to believe Democrats (and to a lesser degree Republicans to keep up) won't go door to door "helping" people vote, and maybe even mailing their ballots for them. It's called vote harvesting. Able bodied people should at least care enough to go to the polls, stand in line, and cast their own vote. Not answer the door and trade their sacred rights for a cookie or $5 bill.

An election decided by which party's ground game operatives gets more votes cast destroys election integrity. Why even bother with democracy if it's not about individual citizens being civic minded and taking responsibility for their own votes? And that's the relatively legal angle, without even getting into the countless blatant fraud opportunities it would be difficult or impossible to detect.

If Democrats really don't care about election integrity they should stop pretending, change their party name, and openly embrace technocracy or oligarchy. Heck, they're already partly there with the leftist career federal bureaucracy (aka "deep state", "swamp") that views itself as the ruling class and elections as dog and pony shows. This would be another huge step toward making democracy meaningless.

It's very hard to suppress the vote if it's done by mail. Republicans are relying on voter suppression to win. They can't make voters wait on line for hours in democratic areas, they can't challenge voters right to cast their ballot, they can't make it difficult to obtain IDs in order to deny the vote, etc.

Republicans fear democracy. Republicans fear an honest and open election.

I received my mail-in voting application today.

How can you guarantee who's votes show up and who's don't? You are taking a vote and trusting it to go through many additional individuals, multiple stops, travel possibly hundreds of miles, and you can't see the potential for irregularities? What if you have a lefty mailman in a predominantly republic voting district, and he just decided to destroy the votes rather than deliver them? Just one example of dozens on how someone could manipulate this.

Morale of the debacle? Actual fraud happens on both sides but they happen few and far between. Less than 100 a year I would say.
