Trump Attacks Fox News' John Roberts For Asking A Normal Question

President Donald Trump attacked Fox News journalist John Roberts during a coronavirus task force briefing on Wednesday for bringing up the disbanded pandemic response team.

Roberts, who was setting up a question by mentioning criticisms of Trump’s response to the coronavirus outbreak, noted that former Obama administration officials had pointed out that the Trump administration dissolved the pandemic office of the National Security Council.

“We didn’t do that. That turned out to be a false story.... What are you, working for CNN?” Trump said, interrupting the reporter’s question.

Trump is incompetent and an imbecile.

“You know that’s a false story, what you just said is a false story.... You shouldn’t be repeating a story you know is false,” Trump continued.

Roberts, who previously worked at CBS News and then CNN.

Worked at CNN, huge shocker!

lol

Since a Democrat hack just reposted an old DNC talking point based on a false complaint by a disgruntled ex employee, I'll post this old debunking from those actually involved. The piece covers other debunked lies like the hoax that Trump called the virus a "hoax", that he "muzzled" Dr. Fauci, and that he cut CDC funding, but I'll quote some excerpts focusing on the "response" team lie:

"What about the claim that the NSC office was dissolved? That’s wrong too, according to Tim Morrison, the former senior director for counterproliferation and biodefense on the National Security Council. The Washington Post let him counter the prior opinion article and he did, saying, “No, the White House didn’t ‘dissolve’ its pandemic response office. I was there.”...

...'It has been alleged by multiple officials of the Obama administration, including in The Post, that the president and his then-national security adviser, John Bolton, “dissolved the office” at the White House in charge of pandemic preparedness. Because I led the very directorate assigned that mission, the counterproliferation and biodefense office, for a year and then handed it off to another official who still holds the post, I know the charge is specious.

Now, I’m not naive. This is Washington. It’s an election year. Officials out of power want back into power after November. But the middle of a worldwide health emergency is not the time to be making tendentious accusations. [….]

One such move at the NSC was to create the counterproliferation and biodefense directorate, which was the result of consolidating three directorates into one, given the obvious overlap between arms control and nonproliferation, weapons of mass destruction terrorism, and global health and biodefense. It is this reorganization that critics have misconstrued or intentionally misrepresented. If anything, the combined directorate was stronger because related expertise could be commingled.'

So in other words because they combined offices to make things more efficient, Democrats and their willing support team in media are arguing they “eliminated” the office. Even John Bolton weighed in and called it garbage. Needless to say, he has not love lost for the president so he isn’t saying it to defend him...

'Reporting that alleges the Trump Administration dissolved NSC offices related to our biodefense are both false and misleading. Listen to those who ran the effort. This is a must-read for everyone who values truth over politics in a time of crisis.'"

Of course he did. That's what he does when confronted with his own incompetence. He gets mad and lies about what happened. Except it's not a false story, Donald.

TEXT:

"...Legum outlined a series of cost-cutting decisions made by the Trump administration in preceding years that had gutted the nation’s infectious disease defense infrastructure. The “pandemic response team” firing claim referred to news accounts from Spring 2018 reporting that White House officials tasked with directing a national response to a pandemic had been ousted.

Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer abruptly departed from his post leading the global health security team on the National Security Council in May 2018 amid a reorganization of the council by then-National Security Advisor John Bolton, and Ziemer’s team was disbanded. Tom Bossert, whom the Washington Post reported “had called for a comprehensive biodefense strategy against pandemics and biological attacks,” had been fired one month prior.

It’s thus true that the Trump administration axed the executive branch team responsible for coordinating a response to a pandemic and did not replace it, eliminating Ziemer’s position and reassigning others, although Bolton was the executive at the top of the National Security Council chain of command at the time."
