Do you consider Arabs to be "White?"

I just filled out my Census2020 questionnaire online, and this year there is a field after you check the box "White" to indicate what your "whiteness" origin is. It says for example, Irish, Italian,... Lebanese, Egyptian...

Also, in the box where you check "Hispanic" it says for example, Mexican, Cuban,... Spaniard..." Isn't everyone who claims "Hispanic" necessarily considered part Spaniard? Of course there are immigrants everywhere in the world. Is someone from Argentina who only has Italian/German descent considered "Hispanic"? Likewise, if you are from Latin America and only have indigenous descent (or African descent), are you considered "Hispanic?"

I also don't understand the distinguishing between Portuguese and Spanish for the term "Hispanic."

Hispanic is mostly a mix of Spanish (mostly) with American indians. It's not homogeneous, some people will have more European blood, some people less. Guillermo del Toro, for example, seems 100% European, while Evo Morales seems fully indigenous.

I also don't understand the distinguishing between Portuguese and Spanish for the term "Hispanic."

That has an historical cause:

I always though Hispanic as referring to people of Latin American nations with Spanish origin.
I think considering it a mix of Spanish with Indians is not accurate. For example, a large portion of Colombians as well as Spanish-speaking Carribean nations are clear descendants of Africa but most of them would consider themselves Hispanic, not African.

While the Kurds are the "whitest" of the ethnic groups in the Middle-East, I do not consider the rest to be "white."

The Portuguese and Spanish have a long history of being rivals and friends. To try and lump them together would be an extreme insult, just like it would be to call someone from the Netherlands a "Hollander," if they are not actually from the province of Holland. It's complicated.

No. Generally speaking the Arabs are a mixture of light brown and African as are Southern Europeans. Really the whites are the Northern Europeans. Just stand them side by side and you can see the difference.
