Dems take another victory lap! Two major defeats for T-rump on immigration in one day

On Friday, a federal judge in New York temporarily blocked the administration’s “public charge” rule tying immigrants’ legal status to their use of government benefits. District Court Judge George Daniels issued a temporary nationwide injunction blocking the administration from enforcing new rules, set to take effect October 15. The new rules would make it harder for immigrants to get green cards if officials determined they would likely use government benefits including Medicaid, food stamps, welfare or public housing vouchers.

“Defendants do not articulate why they are changing the public charge definition, why this new definition is needed now, or why the definition set forth in the rule — which has absolutely no support in the history of U.S. immigration law — is reasonable,” the Judge wrote. “The rule is simply a new agency policy of exclusion in search of a justification. It is repugnant to the American Dream of the opportunity for prosperity and success through hard work and upward mobility. Immigrants have always come to this country seeking a better life for themselves and their posterity. With or without help, most succeed."

As if that wasn't enough, U.S. District Court Judge David Briones of Texas also delivered a major blow to T-rump, as he ruled that the president acted unlawfully in declaring a national emergency to secure funds for a border wall.

In his ruling, the Judge stated that Congress made clear, in a January budget measure ending a partial government shutdown, that border wall funding was being denied, beyond $1.3 billion for upgrades of existing barriers. The ruling applies only to some $3.6 billion in military construction funds the administration is seeking to divert toward barrier construction.

“Today’s ruling vindicates the Founders’ wisdom and confirms that the president is not a king, and that he cannot override Congress’s power to decide how to appropriate funds,” said Kristy Parker, a lawyer for Protect Democracy, a nonpartisan nonprofit.

And as a side note, a Manhattan appeals court denied T-rump's request to keep his tax filings secret from the Manhattan DA this morning.

That brings us to three major defeats to T-rump in less than 12 hours - but who's counting?

This was talked about on cable news last night - all over cable news. EXCEPT Fox, where the chuckle heads tried avoiding this all night, especially other important news.

What a bunch of hooey! I understand why the Democrat party want this, but why do you?

By the way, originally immigrants did not receive welfare or public assistance. It was sink or swim. They contributed and were productive members of society or they got nothing.

Originally, there was no welfare or public assistance when immigrants first came to this country. We're now close to the third decade of the 21st Century - get with the times.

Lol!!!! You guys like to go WAAAAAAYYY into the past with your immigration nonsense, always quoting the "give us your poor", etc., but you neglect to mention that in those days, immigration wasn't like it is today. There was no "come on in and get your free shit", like today. You can't have it both ways.

Your post doesn't even make remote sense.

Coming from you, I'm not surprised.
