Informative article. I sympathize with Brennan's growth from a former free speech absolutist who in 2013 began the site as an iconoclastic statement of his idealism to renouncing his naive bombast (and the site over his horror over what it had become) 3 years later.
shareI felt the same way. Well put.

Good. Let them fuel the fire and fan the flames of trump’s political demise.

Crazy. There is even far left boards as well. Shut them all down I say. Funny how most of the issues seem to just affect mostly young white men.
8chan may be down but not gone. If it does get taken down for good though there will be a vacuum and others sites will come or popup to fill the gap. A long battle ahead. I guess this is why China has less of these things since they vet the sites before they go live if it harms the party and social order or whatnot.
Daily Stormer is still up on the dark web.
shareWhat "far left" boards?
Conspiracy mongering appears to be an exclusively right wing affliction these days. This wasn't always the case, certainly in the sixties and seventies the extreme left had their share of devout believers of the Illuminati, maybe the closest cultural equivalent on the left to QAnon I can think of.
But I'm not aware of any left wing boards that rival 4chan, 8chan, Daily Stormer, Infowars, Gateway Pundit in prominence or visibility. If they exist what are they?
The closest simulacrum I can even think of is specific to "far left" provocateurs part of the Russia apologist nexus of Glenn Greenwald-Michael Tracy-Aaron Mate. But there is no site except maybe RT that caters to their antiestablishmentarian pro-Putin delusions.

"Conspiracy theorizing is almost inherent in leftism because it's an ideology that demands enemies"
I think your irony meter is irrevocably broken. You're pretty much summing up alt-right and Trumpism in a nutshell with their xenophobia and demonizing immigrants the staple hallmark of their ideology.
Wrong. More anti-Trump delusions. Wanting one's nation state to continue to exist, which requires actually having borders and immigration controls, or even wanting principles like sovereignty, democracy, rule of law, and the social contract respected, isn't "xenophobia". It's not when Mexicans (especially see Tijuana's recent harrowing experience with these caravans) and all the other nations in the world want that, or when Americans do.
Falsely attacking the American people with hateful, mindless, bumper sticker sized slogans is another modern leftist tactic.
Wrong. There were border and immigration controls under Obama. He deported record numbers of illegals. Look it up. It's funny how you seem to think there were open borders and no immigration controls prior to Trump. FYI you were lied to.
Trump has made so many divisively anti-immigrant racially charged comments that I can't take a cultist like you seriously who is so in denial you believe his rhetoric has all been above board.

I didn't mention Obama or say that we have control over our borders now, so your reply is the irrational drivel I've come to expect from you, but for the record the talking point about Obama deporting "record" numbers of illegals is complete BS. Since we've proved in past debates that you hate to read and your research skills suck I'll help you (and no, the LA Times is not "right wing", lol):
"A closer examination shows that immigrants living illegally in most of the continental U.S. are less likely to be deported today than before Obama came to office, according to immigration data.
Expulsions of people who are settled and working in the United States have fallen steadily since his first year in office, and are down more than 40% since 2009.
On the other side of the ledger, the number of people deported at or near the border has gone up — primarily as a result of changing who gets counted in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency’s deportation statistics.
The vast majority of those border crossers would not have been treated as formal deportations under most previous administrations. If all removals were tallied, the total sent back to Mexico each year would have been far higher under those previous administrations than it is now.....
“If you are a run-of-the-mill immigrant here illegally, your odds of getting deported are close to zero — it’s just highly unlikely to happen,” John Sandweg, until recently the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in an interview."

The problem became even worse with Obama's executive amnesty (which he admitted was unconstitutional) and the current loopholes liberals created that have forced the government to let massive numbers of illegals in, encouraging more to come, often with kids dangerously in tow (who are often bought and/or kidnapped as "get into the US free cards", not that real parents dragging them hundreds of miles through harsh terrain isn't child abuse anyway).
A reasonable person can’t take seriously someone whose entire argument consists of linking to a Wikipedia page (lol!) with constant edit warring that just aggregates one sided partisan propaganda that’s already been debunked (e.g. Charlottesville “both sides” comment, which wasn’t about white nationalists whom he explicitly condemned; “rapists”, criminals, etc., which wasn’t about regular immigrants or Mexicans but brutal gangs crossing illegally; “*hithole countries”, which he didn’t say as claimed by some Democrats but wouldn’t be racist if he had). His comments are either hopelessly taken out of context, not remotely racist, and/or not even things he said. Your talking points are lies. The intro even features a segment on the Central Park jogger rape case, some liberals crying “racism” because the perps Trump still believes are guilty (because of the facts, not skin color) just happen to be black. Problem is many expert observers also believe they’re guilty and that their release is a travesty of justice.
Funny how these supposedly “racist” comments don’t even mention race. Trump isn’t racist. He rejected the Reform Party nomination years ago because he found out David Duke was associated with the party. He’s worked with and been friends with people of all races his entire life. His son in law and daughter are Jewish, and Israelis hail him as a huge improvement of an ally over his predecessor (and maybe all his predecessors).
Central Park rape case? How about Trump’s prison reform initiatives like the First Step act, which is resulting in thousands of prisoners being released, many of them black? How about him presiding over the lowest black unemployment on record? To paraphrase Kanye West, no one called Trump a racist until he got into politics and started hammering the left.
It’s dishonest to cherry pick a few comments and lie about them, while ignoring the full record. Either way it wouldn’t justify smearing the masses of Americans legitimately concerned with border security.
