The truth about Mueller's claims about Russian interference in election

From here: https://www.thenation.com/article/questions-mueller-russiagate/

1. Why did you suggest that juvenile clickbait from a Russian troll farm was part of a “sweeping and systematic” Russian government interference effort?

The Mueller report begins by declaring that “[t]he Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion.” A few paragraphs later, Mueller tells us that Russian interference occurred “principally through two operations.” The first of these operations was “a social media campaign that favored presidential candidate Donald J. Trump and disparaged presidential candidate Hillary Clinton,” carried out by a Russian troll farm known as the Internet Research Agency (IRA).

The inference here is that the IRA was a part of the Russian government’s “sweeping and systematic” interference campaign. Yet Mueller’s team has been forced to admit in court that this was a false insinuation. Earlier this month, a federal judge rebuked Mueller and the Justice Department for having “improperly suggested a link” between IRA and the Kremlin. US District Judge Dabney Friedrich noted that Mueller’s February 2018 indictment of the IRA “does not link the [IRA] to the Russian government” and alleges “only private conduct by private actors.” Jonathan Kravis, a senior prosecutor on the Mueller team, acknowledged that this is the case. “[T]he report itself does not state anywhere that the Russian government was behind the Internet Research Agency activity,” Kravis told the court.

Kravis is correct. The Mueller report did not state that the Kremlin was behind the social media campaign; it only disingenuously suggested it. Mueller also goes to great lengths to paint it as a sophisticated operation that “had the ability to reach millions of U.S. persons.” Yet, as we already know, most of the Russian social media content was juvenile clickbait that had nothing to do with the election (only 7 percent of IRA’s Facebook posts mentioned either Trump or Clinton). There is also no evidence that the political content reached a mass audience, and to the extent it reached anyone, most of it occurred after the election.

2. Are you still convinced that the GRU stole Democratic Party e-mails and transferred them to Wikileaks?

Between the initial July 2018 indictment of 12 GRU officers for the DNC e-mail theft and Mueller’s March 2019 report, some wiggle room appears. As I wrote this month for RealClearInvestigations, Mueller’s report uses qualified, vague language to describe the alleged GRU theft of Democratic Party e-mails, offers an implausible timeline for when Wikileaks may have received the e-mails from the GRU, and acknowledges that Mueller has not actually established how WikiLeaks acquired the stolen information.

3. Why didn’t you interview Julian Assange?

The uncertainty in Mueller’s account of how WikiLeaks received the stolen e-mails could possibly have been cleared up had Mueller attempted to interview Julian Assange. The WikiLeaks founder insists that the Russian government was not his source, and has repeatedly offered to speak to US investigators. Given that Assange received and published the stolen emails at the heart of Mueller’s investigation, his absence from Mueller’s voluminous witness sheet is a glaring omission.

There are links in the story to the actual court documents.

I'm curious, has the MSM reported any of this?

Also, how many of you were fooled by Mueller's duplicity in trying to connect the IRA Facebook group to the Russian government?

reply

Many stupid questions asked since the answers are obvious. The OP can't figure out why Julian Assange wasn't interviewed? Really?

One idiot pseudojournalist word over multiple international intelligence agencies as well as local and state governments who have found evidence of Russian computer hacking related to voting.

There's nothing more tiring than the anti-intelligence movement that the Trumpites swim in. At some point, they have to begin using their basic common sense. Stop defending foreign governments intent on attacking and destroying democracy. Show a little American patriotism.

reply

So hilarious how the OP is linking to an Aaron Mate article at The Nation, the literal mouthpiece of pro-Kremlin Russia denialism on the extreme left.

The OP clearly lacks basic critical thinking faculties to actually buy any of Mate's propaganda. As if the IRA being a Russian government troll farm hasn't already been independently verified by online forensics teams in the private sector as well as former IRA employees who have gone public to the press. OP appears to be a typical dumbed down Trump inspired fake news casualty over the last 3 years to not be aware of this.

Go to YouTube and listen to some Scott Ritter or Col. Richard H. Black ... both self avowed Conservatives on this war.

Knowledge, information and enlightenment ... no thanks. You all over.

There are multiple interviews of Assange on YouTube. Why do you think he couldn't be interviewed?

Don't you find it curious why Mueller didn't use all those examples of evidence of Russian computer hacking to bolster his claim? And he used the one example he couldn't tie to the Russian government? Is he anti-intelligence also?

To a liberal, all they have to do to refute an argument is to call someone a name. Never mind the actual evidence presented in the article. Did you actually read the court document and what the judge ruled?

Once again, you prove you can't accept facts when they go against your beliefs.

Stop posting stupid shit.

Continue to support Russia instead of the U.S.

The BBC had more foreign influence on our election than Russia did. So did Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, the biggest owner of the NY Times. Illegal aliens likely did too through fraudulent voting, directly disenfranchising US citizens. Apparently so did at least some British and Australian individuals who cooperated with the Obama administration's attempt to frame Trump and subvert our democracy.

reply

Conspiracy theory nonsense! Alex Jones clickbait to sell products to rubes. Russia wouldn't be able to take advantage if Trumpites weren't so gullible to lies.

BTW, England, Australia and Mexico are allies unlike a hostile Russia. Learn the difference.

reply

LOL! People pushing the insane conspiracy theory for three years that Trump, who's been way tougher on Putin than Obama ever was, is somehow a Russian Manchurian candidate, don't get to cry "conspiracy theory nonsense!" with any credibility.

I didn't espouse any conspiracy theories. The existence of the BBC and NY Times (with Slim's ownership stake) are also public knowledge, as is the massive illegal alien population. It's open foreign interference in our elections. Neither the BBC nor Slim necessarily represent general British or Mexican sentiment, but whether they do or not they're certainly trying to impose their own agenda onto America whether Americans like it or not. The BBC is no ally to the US and Slim's open border push would effectively cause America to cease to exist as a nation. The shadowy figures who helped the Obama administration abuse its power to try and take out Trump (actual conspiracy being revealed, not a conspiracy theory) aren't allies of America either. They represent the establishment class which loathes the middle class in both countries.

reply

You're confused. It was actually traditional Republican and Democrats officials and politicians who have been tough on Putin despite Trump's objections. If you're aware of the many leaks in the White House including the anonymous letter sent to the NYT, then you know that there are officials still trying to protect the U.S. and are either ignoring or overriding Trump's initiatives.

Trump has met numerously in secret with foreign KGB agent Putin and has refused to disclose any information to American officials and national security. Putin has recently denounced democracy in favor of his oligarchy aka dictatorship. Do you really trust that a feeble-minded Trump can hold his own against a KGB agent when Trump has accidentally given away top secrets publicly?

If you're worried about foreign interference then contact Mitch McConnell and ask him why he refuses to protect the 2020 elections despite the Senate's findings of continuing interference and Mueller's warning. All Russia, China or Iran needs to do is delete or change your address in the computer and you can't vote. Or don't you believe your vote counts in a close election?

"I didn't espouse any conspiracy theories. "
Yes, you did. Listed below:
1. The BBC had more foreign influence on our election than Russia did.
2. Illegal aliens likely did too through fraudulent voting
3. Obama administration's attempt to frame Trump and subvert our democracy.

BBC is media. There is freedom in media in a democracy. Are you state sponsored censorship?

You are the one who has a problem differentiating between legitimate information and conspiracy theories or propaganda. There are thousands of news sources on the internet so I don't understand why people limit themselves to Fox news or Infowars. "It was actually traditional Republican and Democrats officials and politicians who have been tough on Putin despite Trump's objections."

You mean Republicans like John Bolton whom Trump has filled his cabinet with, lol? I'm talking about ACTIONS. Obama and "reset" Clinton spent 8 years appeasing Putin. Obama scrapped our missile defense agreement with Poland and other allies when Putin complained. They struck the corrupt Uranium One deal transferring a massive percentage of US uranium to Russian control, while the Clinton Foundation was paid millions by Russian banking elements with interests in the deal. Obama's entire Middle East strategy was to turn the region over to Russian and Iranian domination. Trump has reversed all of that, including missile defense, and began giving the lethal aid to Ukrainians fighting Russian invaders that Obama had refused to give. While keeping Trump's promise to rapidly destroy ISIS, US troops even shredded a combined Russian/Syrian force that attacked them. Plus Trump's made America much stronger than it was under Obama, including by achieving energy independence with increased drilling that undermine's Russia's position, and soon to regain the space travel independence lost under Obama, so US astronauts will no longer suffer the indignity of having to hitch rides on Russian vessels.

"Trump has met numerously in secret with foreign KGB agent Putin and has refused to disclose any information to American officials and national security."

Is English your first language? What does "met numerously in secret with" even mean?

None of the factually true and undeniable things I listed are "conspiracy theories". You say the "BBC is media". So is Wikileaks.

LOL! Do you not think for yourself at all? I already dealt with your leftist hack junkfood "factcheck" blog on the other thread:

You have a great deal of hate in you. All you do is make negative comments about people based on ideology.

Your #1 "religious" site has also been labeled anti-Semitic, racist, Islamophobic and homophobic. Of course, you criticize anyone who defines hate groups since your site is listed.

reply

No, that's all you do. I posted lots of substance that you've failed to respond to. I even already debunked your stupid, truly hateful leftist slander blog and you've got no response, lol.

Actually they're writing about Scarborough's deranged meltdown, being the classless sore loser he is. That's good since almost no one watches his stupid show and without coverage like this most people wouldn't know about his breakdown.

reply

[deleted]

Now you're having a meltdown. Try not to spit on your keyboard as you repeatedly bang out posts about how other people are supposedly "bitches", lol.

reply

Ok I’ll try.

reply

So where’s the talk of a meltdown in that article, paid troll?

reply

They literally have the word "fumes" in the link title in your own post, lol. If I'm getting paid for dealing with people like you it's not enough.

reply

You missed or ignored the point entirely; that even Fox News is reporting on McConnell’s aid of Russian election interference.

reply

You mean they covered some Dems melting down and claiming everyone's a traitor (last week everyone was a Nazi, maybe they'll go back to that this week) because they're suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome to begin with and are particularly upset about their hearing a few days ago being a train wreck.

No Republicans are "aiding" Russia in any way. They're working on their own, responsible election security bill. The garbage the Dems tried to ram through was for grandstanding and a PR stunt. Republicans were actually warning about Russia and other nations trying to interfere in our elections years ago but were ignored by Obama. In fairness to Obama the "interference" didn't amount to much. Domestic corruption, like that exposed by Wikileaks, is a vastly bigger danger to our democracy.

So is Democrats' unscrupulous war against common sense voter ID laws. Democrats' support for election fraud renders all their bleating about election integrity hollow.

reply

You spew garbage and I want to bump everything you post so everyone can karma your ass until you've broken the rules enough to get this nasty trolling sock account banned.

remember when Hillary got fined by the SEC for lying about the steele dossier?

reply

Remember when Trump stole boxes of classified government documents and refused to return them jeopardizing national security?

reply

who said they were classified? and who said he stole them?

reply

Trump already admitted it. Try to keep up!

reply

Trump said he stole classified documents? you have a link to that?

reply

The papers said they were classified. The papers label themselves TS for Top Secret or SCI for Sensitive Compartmented Information. If they were declassified, they'd also have that label (which it did not) and would have gone through a process to declassify them, not pick up and leave the office therefore considered declassified. I'd bet you'd still defend Trump if he took F-35 design plans with him and said it was declassified. Anywho, they're both shifty either way but one is worse than the other.
