Should there be an maximum age limit for the executive of a country?

I think there should, because the challenges (physical, mental, and emotional) of leading a country may be too much for an elderly person. You can argue that older people are wiser but there is also the danger of senility and other problems related to old age.

I'd say 80 years would be a good maximum age limit.

Yes. I believe strongly in both term limits and age limits for all government officials. I would set the maximum age at 75.

I agree. No one really knows when a seemingly healthy person can begin to have issues that may interfere with their ability to govern. I would go a bit lower - say 72 or so. If they take office at 72, well, they're already pushing it. I'm thinking of just how stressful and draining the job is. Just look at the photos of previous U.S. presidents, comparing the beginning of their presidency to the end of it.

Aren't airline pilots forced into retirement at 65? (I may have that wrong, though.)

I would also agree - no need for senile dementia to be a trait of office - and even less for pols to stay in office until they die - McStain...

There are many perfectly lucid people over 72, or 75, or 80 years old. Mental acuity testing would be a better idea than mandating an arbitrary cutoff age.

reply

I think the two can be complimentary, just as they are in retaining a driver's license, so I agree with you there.

But I'd need to see some robust cognitive testing from about age 70 on...

50 years ago, 80 was a very long time to live, well past the life expectancy. 50 years from now, 80 will seem very young.

If we're still here you stand to be right.

I wonder if we'll be any smarter or just sacks of wrinkled skin with hormonal teenagers trapped inside ranting against the light of capitalism?

reply

76 is a nice round number. And it should apply to any office as well as judges.

There should also be a minimum age of 50 because people younger than that are too stupid and self absorbed to hold office.

Lastly the voting age should be raised to 25 and require ID to eliminate the massive voter fraud that goes on every election.

reply

Oh HELL yes!

25 is a useful number because by then moist have escaped the clutched of the university indoctrination system and at least begun to think for themselves - not well, but at least trying...

AOC handily case studies your no service before 50 codicil, so I like that one a lot. I might be open to 40 if it had to be negotiated down, but below that lie the shoals of partisan emotional nitwittery.

reply

I think term limits should apply to all govt officials. Serving for 30+ years is just ridiculous.
