"Hate crime on the rise" stats debunked.
https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/the-hate-crimes-in-trumps-america-narrative/
Short version
- The recent "increase" is due to 1,000 new agencies reporting to the program now, not a real increase in hate crimes.
- Hate crimes have generally declined over the years despite governments more aggressively categorizing crimes as "hate". For example:
Hate Crimes
2017 - 7,615
2006 - 9,652
That's despite the US having 25 million fewer people in 2006 than in "Trump's America".
- These are reported, not proven hate crimes. Most are petty (e.g. a slice of bacon found on the ground near a mosque), many are hoaxes, and many are subject to (mis)interpretation and simply assumed by the supposed victim to have been hate motivated when they may not have been.
- Perspective. Hate crimes are an infinitesimal percentage of crime.
2015
Total murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults - 1,231,566
Those classified as "hate crimes" - 821
Americans struck by lightning annually - ~550
- Blacks are 200 times more likely to commit hate crimes than whites.
- Nearly 90 percent of police departments reported zero hate crimes in 2017.

- Hate crimes against Muslims and "transgendered" people DECREASED from 2016 to 2017 in "Trump's America", while hate crimes against men tripled.
- Proven fake hate crimes, a documented phenomenon since at least the 1970s, sharply spiked since Trump's election.
