What do you think about Leah Remini and Scientology?

She says that Tom Cruise could single-handedly end Scientology. Thoughts?

reply

I think she had a nice butt in early eps of KoQ..

I know some of her and the Scientology saga, but how does she think Cruise could take out Scientology?

Cruise is into it, and is fkn crazy...why would he ?

reply

Leah is cool. She had the fortitude to breakaway from what had been indoctrinated into her since she was a child. King of Queens is a great show.

scientology is garbage.

Cruise could definitely deal it a significant blow if he left it and criticized it like Leah has, I could see that leading to its end.

reply

yeah, I get that, but that is like saying it would have hurt the Nazi Germans if Hitler or Goering or Himmler bugged out..

You greatly underestimate the insidious, debilitating, cancerous nature of religion. Tom Cruise leaving the cult and speaking out against it would damage it but it would certainly not "end" it. The weak and stupid will always be willing to subscribe to one superstition or another, and some will choose scientology. Others will choose christianity. This won't change just because Tom Cruise turns traitor.

i get the point that he is a very high profile ambassador for this shyt, as is someone like John Travolta ..although he does not seem to be associated with it in public as much as Cruise does..but everyone knows he is one of them, and he is a big name, if not quite as big as Cruise these days.

But my point is, unless there has been some sign of the cracks appearing in Cruise's faith...what's the point in speculating what it would do if he left?

He's a crackpot...obviously Rimini isn't, that is why she was able to reject this cynical and infantile 'thetons' and 'clear' drivel, which is a giant money-making scam preying on idiots, which (sci-fi author) Hubbard himself, who was sort of like the Phineas Barnham of crackpot religion, admitted laughingly that it was a con and was created as a con....

reply

I never meant to say it would cause an immediate and total collapse, I think it would be the beginning of the end.

reply

Interesting.

I imagine there is a point there. Given he's by far the most high profile member of the cult, if he denounced it it'd surely send shock waves through the entire operation.

Sure, of course it would. It would not be the end of scientology, sadly. Some would stay and eventually it would rebound.

One of the many problems with religion is that the more evidence of it being a sham you present (such as Tom Cruise revealing some nasty secrets he's privy to) it only further solidifies some people's faith. They'll say "See? This is just proof that everyone is out to get us and stop us from spreading the truth of L. Ron Hubbard's message! I knew Tom Cruise was an evil spy all along!" There's also a profound amount of cognitive dissonance. They simply won't believe the nasty secrets (whatever they may be) no matter how much proof you have. People are very, very resistant to admitting they were wrong about deeply and/or long held beliefs, no matter how much information you throw at them.

Some will hold onto their incorrect beliefs simply out of spite or to avoid admitting they were wrong even when they know they're wrong, the other person knows they're wrong, and they know the other person knows they're wrong.

Arguments of facts, logic and even empathy simply do not work on some people (Republicans, usually).
