The Blofeld connection just baffles me and always will

The producers, the actors, the writers, the studio, the editors--nobody, at any point during the making of Spectre stopped and said, "Hey, making Bond and Blofeld brothers might be really, really stupid."

I swear, half the budget must go to cocaine or something.

Pre-edit: FOSTER brothers! Yeah, I know, and it changes nothing.

There is a man...he travels fast...he has purpose...he brings violence and destruction.

The strange thing is, is that this twist was already done before in the third Austin Powers movie.

Why the Bond filmmakers felt they had to do it in a serious Bond movie is beyond me, unless it was just a questionable coincidence?

reply

Well I would suspect it counts as more conincidence than intentional homage. I would not think Bond stories are written in ignorance of AP scripts, as basically the last 18 years show strong signs of overreaction against being charged with aping AP, at least until SP. So, I suspect if the moratorium of anti-AP plotpointing has been relieved, SP might have reveled in its Blofeldian "unnecessariness" a bit too wantonly. Definitely, a major trouble spot many have with SP is the convoluted, derivative, and unFlemingish character redefinition of ESB.

You know, if the long-gone Bond Board Song Thread was still around I could make a killer version of the "Blofeld Connection".

Why are there so many
Secret step brothers?
And what's on the author's mind
Brothers go cuckoo
And drill jawbones too
Brothers have plenty to hide
So we've been told
And some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong wait and see
Someday we'll find it
The Blofeld connection
The brothers, the cuckoos and me

reply

Well, now, that's pitch perfect.

What no man Can give ya. And none Can take away.
