Do all students have to go to King's Cross?

For students to get to Hogwarts they all have to go to King's Cross to get the Hogwarts Express. The popular fan theory is Hogwarts in Scotland and in the Movie version Cho Chang is Scottish, so I thinking it would be very unfair for students from Scotland, the Northern England, North Wales etc... if they all have to go to London and just so they can back up North, especially if they are a muggles and have no access to say the Floo Network.

I'm sure other train stations across the country had portals to Platform 9 3/4.

reply

Same. There would probably be ways to get there from other train stations.

It does seem a bit odd. You would think the train would stop at places on its way north - birmingham, manchester, carlisle etc.

reply

Yeah, I used to wonder about that too. But I guess that JKR just loved to idea of a wizard school train so much, that she didn't really think about how unrealistic it is if everybody has to go to London to take it to Hogwarts.

reply

I doubt wizards would think about distances the way us muggles do. If you could just step into the fireplace and get to London in a few seconds, it probably wouldnt be a big deal to go to Kings Cross a couple of times per year. Riding the train was probably a novelty for most of them (except muggleborns).

reply

Sure... But what if a muggleborn lived only a few miles from Hogwarts?

reply

You got me there.

reply

Hogwarts might have bent the rules a bit for the muggle-born students, whose homes were closer to school than to London. But we don't know.
