RSO Records - 40 Years ago.

If you don't know what RSO Records is, they were, a very successful record label in the 1970s.
The letters stand for Robert Stigwood Organization, the label's founder. Mainly existing between 1973 and 1983. The one and only Eric Clapton (who gave them their 1st #1 single with "I Shot The Sheriff" in 1974.

Rhe Bee Gees however, became the label's highest ranking, charting and selling act. 2 #1 hits 'before' the soundtracks of Saturday Night Fever and Grease, they hit #1 in 1975 with " Jive Talkin' " and again in 1976 with "You Should Be Dancing". (Later included on the SNF soundtrack). (The had other top 10 and top 50 hits in that time also.)

Starting in late 1977 and through the summer of 1978, The Bee Gees, RSO (and some other acts on it) were everywhere. The Bee Gees scored 3 #1's in a row from S.N.F. How Deep Is Your Love, Stayin' Alive and Night Fever (the last one #1 for 8 weeks). In early '78 the Band Player hit the top with "Baby Come Back". Also from SNF, Yvonne Eliman's cover of their song "If I Can't Have You" hit #1 also.

Between summer 1977 - 1978 Andy Gibb had 3 #1s of his own, in a row.
I Just Want To Be Your Everything, Love Is Thicker Than Water and Shadow Dancing.

Hot on the heels of this was Grease. John Travolta & Olivia Newton John with "You're The One That I Want", the tile track sung by Frankie Valli (and written by the Gibb brothers) both hit #1 and there were other top 10 hits from it as well.

Simply put, RSO and it's acts pretty much ownded the Hot 100 that year (like Puff Daddy in 1997.) In 1979, The Bee Gees scored 2 more #1 hits, Yoo Much Heaven, Tragedy and Love Yo Inside Out. The other acts by this time were leaving the label or stopped having hits b 1980/1981.

In fact, until the Bee Gees hit the top 10 in 1989 with "One", their super hit mankig status came to a shocking end. 1981s "He's A Liar" only made #30. The Woman in You madde #23 in 1983...but then it was all over. The label finally folded .
